8800gt + cpu overclock > 500 watts?

So I have an enermax liberty 500w that has been working for me since 2006. No problems so far, except now I want to add a new component. My 7900gt is giving me artifact issues in 3d mode and I think that might be partly because of a voltmod I tried, but anyways now that I have 1920x1200 I should really get a 512mb card.

So I am seeing the 8800gt is on sale, and according to wikipedia it uses maybe even 50 watts more than my old card.

I have my e6600 overclocked to 3.6, and I really have no idea how to test to see how much wattage I'm actually using.

Does 500 watts sound like enough to maintain my overclock and power the new card?

you are fine. I run the following on a Corsair 450watt VX unit

8400@4GHZ
8800GTS 512MB card Volt modded
4GB ram
2 HDs
1 DVD+RW

aah okay cool, it's surprisingly difficult to figure out how much power you need... I suppose they keep it that way to make us believe we need 1000+ watt psus

Check out the rig in my sig. At full processor load it pulls 255-265 watts from the wall according to my Kill A Watt. That is with the video card idle but still at regular clocks and not in any type of power save mode.

I'm sure you won't have any trouble with that PSU as the 12 volt rails look very good.
