81.82 driver...magic bullet????

I'm going to sit on my 3000+ venice, 6800 Ultra, and Hititachi 19'' for quite a while... I'm just reading this thread to make me sad inside.
 
blah, i couldnt even get this thing to install. I get an error saying ' The nvidia setup program could not find any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware' and then the setup program proceeds to close :mad:
is there something im supposed to do before i install this? im using the 78.03 beta drivers as of right now
 
drivers installed fine for me,and aa and af seem to work good too.my first impression is that these are a great set of drivers.speed wise,they seem about the same as 78.03, but there is a smoothness about the drivers,everything seems to run so smooth now,i just cant describe it.
 
grr this sux, i tried everything to get this driver installed....i completely deleted the nvidia video card drivers, but that didnt help either :(
 
did you uninstall your drivers then boot to safe mode and run driver cleaner pro, then restart windows normally and install your new drivers?

So you can see, the 81.82 drivers are indeed using the second core to speed things up...the ONLY thing changed bewteen the benches was the disabling of the second core. I also see lower load temps because only one core is producing heat....anywhere from a 5% to a 10% gain depending on resolution and AA/AF settings....there is going to be a LOT of testing from different sites soon.....

While you may have reached the correct conclusion, your logic is flawed. The 2nd core can also be handling OS tasks at the same time, so just disabling it and getting worse benches doesn't logically extend to the drivers using both cores.

True. But I run a pretty clean rig with very little going on in the background...and you can SEE the second core being used more in a game, where used to be, the game would just load one core 100% and leave the second one alone.

Unless I'm mistaken, I'm pretty sure you're running that game on top of an OS, and it is probably a windows OS. Anybody think that win2k/xp/2003 is small footprint? :)

Call up task manager and look at the process count in the process tab. Odds are you've got over 30 before you even start a game.
 
yep... winblows. heh... I love regcleaner! I use it to remove the regular onslaught of startup processes so I can get windows as lean and mean as I can, on my gaming rig. Works pretty well.
 
hmm this driver didnt like my rig either :( did everything and when i play CS:S i got 30 fps max :(

something wrong lol, so i went back to 78.03 and it works flawlessly. Maybe it's just my game due to last week's update..
 
Get decent frame rate increase with these in DOD:S compared to the beta 78.03 (er i think thats what i had last lol, it was xx.03, the driver to attempt to fix shimmering in any case.
 
I'll try in-game, but as far as 3DMark05, no points gained on my system. Lost 7 points, which is within the "room for error" zone, so it's about the same as the 78.01's for me. I doubt it'll play much different in-game.

EXACTLY the reason that an X2 cpu kicks so much ass....

Better IQ IMO than 78.03s, but everything except 3DMark when down by about 2-5fps, still plays great

I have a single core winnie at 2.3 though so i dont have the X2 advantage
 
I have a dual core and my performance didn't improve at all, in fact I think it went down.

EDIT: Rome Total War: Barbarian Invasion doesn't even load with these drivers.
 
Well I'd try them out if they had a 64bit version. :(
 
I'm using these with a 6600GT and having a good time. Top framerates have gone down slightly, but bottom/average frame rates have gone up decently, resulting in smoother gameplay :D

Only problem I have with them is that they do some odd things to the menu in Halo; the Halo being rendered in the background disappears at certain orientations, but I’ll live with that because the game plays fine :D
 
it seemed like a good driver for me, but cs:s would crash every once in a while with a cannot read (some hex number) memory
 
Anyone know if they still plan to release this tomorrow?
 
My 1st round of BF2 it crashed to desktop immediately and I was like AWW HELL NO!
I loaded up a different server and it was gravy. Played about 3 hours last night on different servers without a hitch. Great driver IMO
 
I have to admit I think these drivers are much better. My second CPU on this processor is doing something, usually it is idle all the time. And my framerates are better. I like them.

I dl'ed the "official" nzone beta 81.84....very minor, if any, improvement over the 81.82's. Both great drivers. I play Q3A, Far Cry, Doom3, FS2004, and Ghost Recon.

Very smooth in all respects. Good job NV.
 
Anyone tried these with FS2004?
Is the menu bug still there? If over 2xAA is enabled the aircraft doesn't show in the menu, just a black box.

Forgive me for talking about FS2004 on [H] ocp :D

81.82 smooth as glass with 2x AA 2x AF Quality, Bilinear in AA using 1600x1200. Videos look great as well.
 
What impressed me most about 8x.xx series is that I can actually use my system at speed again. I have a Gigabyte NF3 board and a Leadtek 6800GT. With the 7x.xx series I had to turn off fast write and write combining just to load most games without stutter freezing. To play most I had to underclock my 6800GT!!! I was down to 320/1000 before WOW would stay running.

The 81.84's gave me a boost in 3D Mark 05 and a boost in UT2004 64bit. However, FarCry image quality went into the TOILET. HDR is all screwed up and I get crazy artifacting.
 
I hope somebody does a thorough benchmark with these drivers, now that they support/utilize multicore.

Might be time to replace the fx-55 with an x2 of some type, maybe. :)
 
with 81.82 over 77.72WHQL i got 78pts more with 91mhz less cpu oc :)

these drivers simply rock. farcry runs smooth as butter now at 1600x1200,4x aa and 4x af, HDR enabled. i gained some in the 3dmark05 score also,but i think 3dmark05 is bs anyway.anyways,great drivers,anyone deciding if they should download them or not,do it,you wont be sorry.

Far Cry does not run HDR and AA at the same time, not unless you got some special early release XT1800 :p

Odd some people are having issues. both .26 and .84's run great for Far Cry on my rig....HDR mode or AA modes...
