1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$800 with tax and shipping
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if Washington

USA
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, PSU, CASE, MOBO, RAM, HDD, GFX card
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

Now
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
USB 3.0 and SATA 6gb will be nice but prob not needed for a pc that is going away.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yes, got a extra win 7 pro 64bit I can give to her.

Well she said her budget is 800 at most 1000. However she is planning to move to hawaii in a year and isnt going to take anything, so best is to use the 800 max. She plays fps games, and wants a good computer to play some of the newer games.

A thing i am wondering is how good does laptop play newer games that isnt a super expensive laptop. That way she could take the laptop when she moves with her.

Laptops suck in general, you will NOT get a good performance for the price with a laptop. Especially not out of a sub $1k laptop, I would think. And if you do get a gaming laptop, you'll be disappointed with its battery life even while not gaming. Gaming on battery is just out of the question, unless you want to play only for 20 minutes.

well, of course it sucks, but she is moving to hawaii in a year and not going to be able to take a desktop there. however if it can run new games on low to med quality it should be good enough for her. mainly she play valve games

If she's moving in a year, seems a bit of a waste to spend $800 that you can't take with you. Any chance she'd be willing to up her budget by another $200 to $1200? I mean think about it: If she spend the extra $200 now, she won't have to spend another $800 on a new gaming PC while in Hawaii. Or pay the relatively high shipping costs and risk damage to her current PC. So if she buys a decent $1200 gaming laptop now, she can take it with her to Hawaii

what is a decent gaming laptop maybe she could spend 1200. right now she only have a p4 with 1.5 gb of ram and not sure what gfx card.

so she cant really play l4d and stuff on it smoothy.

ah she is planning to travel back and forth have 2 homes, one in hawaii and one at washington. she doesnt care about buying 2 800 dollars pc for both places it seems like.

Check out the Sager NP9130:

Though I think the Sager NP6165 might do a decent job with Valve games:

The second PC will probably end up being $1000 as she would have to buy another OS key and another monitor.

ya good point she would need a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers for the other place.

well she said she wants to stick with pc.

lets just focus on a single 800-1000 dollar pc right now i guess.

Well find out what size monitor she has. The GPU recommendations for 1440x900 is gonna be different from 1920x1080.

she said she had a 24" monitor. seems like she is a writer, so most likely it is 1920x1200 .

Good enough for me:
$305 - Intel Core i5-3450 CPU + Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H Intel Z77 Motherboard
$39 - G.Skill Value Series F3-10600CL9D-8GBNT 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM
$267 - Gigabyte GV-R785OC-2GD Radeon HD 7850 2GB PCI-E Video Card
$80 - Samsung by Seagate Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ/ST500DM005 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$22 - Samsung SH-222BB/BEBE SATA DVD Burner
$63 - Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W PSU
$50 - NZXT Source 210 Elite White with Black Front Trim ATX Case
---
Total: $826 shipped.

The thing with that other thread is it's more CPU than she needs. Since she isn't overclocking, no real need for the "K" CPU and since the computer will be housed in Washington State, no need for an aftermarket cooler either. However, that case list can be used to swap out the case Danny put in his build, if she wants to go as high as her highest budget that is.
