I looked over at the official XFX 7970 page and couldn't find the same stats as newegg.

Could someone explain to me the differences, and what I should be concerned about, Since Im in 500+$ for the card an extra 50$ is nothing comparatively.

I would love to OC and keep the possibility of water-cooling in the future open but not right now, your help is appreciated!

I would be careful with XFX cards now. Only the black edition cards (i think) come with a lifetime warrenty. (no more double lifetime)

I think the others are 2-3 years warrenty.

Further research although quite disappointing, this is true. Well hell, who should I buy from now then? Does any other manufacturer come close to this? I dont expect to keep this card for more than 2 -> 3 years but none the less.
 
The TDFC is in stock and the other two are out of stock, so that makes your choice easy, no?

Okay, I'll be serious now. According to XFX's 7970 page, the TNFC is the "Core Edition", the TDFC is the "Double Dissipation Edition", and the TDBC and TNBC are the "Black Edition" cards. The TNFC has one fan, and the TNBC is the overclocked version of the TNFC; the TDFC has two fans, and the TDBC is the overclocked version of the TDFC. So, N = one fan, D = 2 fans; F = unoverclocked, B = overclocked.

Good question. All my AMD cards I have owned have been XFX (cept this 4870 im using its Asus).

So....I think i would go with Asus. But thats my personal opinion. I have been an Asus customer for over 10 years now.
 
Just get a reference model. You can usually clock these pretty good on stock coolers, if they are reasonable overclockers they'll usually go hard. Then you can decide if watercooling or air depending on how it goes. Clocks are all over the show for people. I'm getting 1206/1575+ stock with further bumps to test, so definitely considering water if my spare accelero doesn't do what I'm looking for.

edit: Also some of the OC models coming out could be tricky to fit full blocks to if PCB is different so keep that in mind. And some non reference 'oc' or cheaper models to be released could have cheaper components - noisier vrms etc.

TNFC = 925MHz
TDFC = 925MHz with 2 fan DirectDissapation cooler
TNBC = 1000MHz with reference cooler
TDBC = 1000MHz with 2 fan DirectDissapation cooler
 
TNBC is probably not a reference design, due to the lack of an AMD logo right above the PCI-E slot. Factory overclocked. Possibly not compatible with fullcover waterblocks.

TDFC is almost definitely not a reference design, due to the double fan heatsink design. Factory overclocked. Not likely to be compatible with fullcover waterblocks.

TNFC is the only one left, and the most likely one to be a reference version. Stock clocks. Since it's most likely the reference version, it's also the most likely to be compatible with fullcover waterblocks.

No because is that card reference and will I find a waterblock that will work for it in the future? Newegg claims this has a lifetime warranty but the title does not explictly say that its a black edition card.

It depends, if you are looking for a transferable warranty I believe Asus, Gigabyte and MSI go by serial numbers. But the warranties are for 3 years and would be by the manufacturing date and not the purchase date.

Ill wait for a Asus or MSI to come into stock and grab it while I can, I have had a poor experence with gigabyte graphics cards.

Unless anyone has reasons against using Asus or MSI, I have never had to personally deal with them for warranty. Thats my current concern.

Well the Asus 7970 has 2 models. the DirectCU version is 3 slots big, with 4 display port outs (which dont cause tearing in eyefinity). And they also have a stock reference model.

MSI has 2 versions currently out. One is stock reference, and the other is a 1ghz clocked cards with I think the same reference cooler.

MSI will release the Twin Razr III here soon which would be the badass overclocker.

6970 DC2 with 4x DP wasn't supposed to tear. I tested 2 and 3 u2711s hooked up via DP and it teared like a biartch with a ridiculous amount of tutuing, drivers and swapping outputs etc. Not even gaming, just low loading visuals/movies etc. Also via VGA @1080 on tv. Also on S27a950d DP w/ U2711 DP. So don't buy it expecting no tearing. Not saying it'll be same for 7970 and all other users but I see the 'no tearing' touted by many for the DC2, my experience was otherwise.

Thank you for noting the tearing issue, my 5870 does it bad eyefinity or not, its horrid and I would love a graphics card that has VSync (and have it actually work).

That would be my first choice. Then I think Asus is the 2nd best warranty as they transfer to the next owner, but they don't officially support overclocking.

If you read the full warranty sheet, any cards ending with a 4 letter suffix after the part no, is eligable for a lifetime warranty upon registering.( not double though ) Once I ran mine for a week to make sure things were alright, I registered the card and if showed the extended warranty. Mine is the basic core reference model, default voltage is 1174mv, I maxed the sliders in ccc, and looped Heaven @ 2560x1600 for a while, no artifacts, etc. Fan was in auto the whole time and didn't exceed 33%, temps were in the 70-75c range in 24c ambient. It was also the cheapest reference when I bought it, and close to msrp $560
