7970 Purchasing Thread

Well just snatched the VisionTeks on Amazon. I found a review that they are reference cards, so should be about the same as everyone else.

Why are you ordering the VisionTeks from a third party Amazon reseller when the Sapphires are in stock at Newegg for less?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see that you were wanting to spend your Amazon GC's. But still, I would just wait and spend them on something else rather than pay more for a Visiontek from a third party reseller.

i had my card shipped to my work. my UPS & Fed Ex guys just leave shit on my doorstep, which is nice for low-cost items but a curse for high-cost stuff.
I know the feeling. I was missing a copy of Skyrim UPS supposedly delivered to my door... Newegg already shipped a replacement, but now I'm having to go through this whole ordeal with UPS and it's not fun.

Also caught them the other day leaving another person's package at my doorstep instead of my own. So yeah, makes me nervous with stuff like this.

I think it was the gift cards that held him to Amazon.

Shipping to my work is kind of useless for me since there will be my trusty siblings to receive it at home ;)

For those of you who ordered the $599 (or higher) sapphire on Amazon, the price just dropped $50 to match Newegg. I'm requesting the updated price.

Edit: Amazon is giving me a $50 refund.

Since the Sapphire's are still in stock at Newegg I would just order from there so that you for sure get one that will ship out today or tomorrow.

The guy on live chat confirmed what you said about the stock. I'd rather get the XFX warranty.

Congrats! I tried getting them to pricematch down without much hope earlier today, and didn't have any luck.

Sapph's warranty is serial based isn't it? I mean, of course its not lifetime, but for most buying day one 7970's the three years will cover their use.

Awesome, thanks... on phone now to try for refund of $50 :), since the price dropped and it hasn't yet shipped.

Yup Amazon did the same for me. The MYTHLOGIC guys are good people. They already sent me notice that they are shipping too! :D

For what it's worth, the amazon sapphire refund I received was through the "Live Chat' option.

My request was concise, short, and polite. Gotta be nice to these guys sometimes to get the best result :)

I did not get them to price-match to newegg. Their OWN price is $549 now: http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Rade...8VO8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1326151900&sr=8-3

I called in and was able to get a confirmation that they will adjust it upon shipment (I was told due to it being in the packaging phase it cannot be modified until then), and that I would be given a follow-up response tomorrow via email plus an email tonight confirming that I had spoken to them (which I already have received). So, I should be good to go on the $50 price difference there, which makes me feel a LOT better about the whole thing :).

Thanks again for posting the heads-up, I probably wouldn't have seen it right away if you hadn't!

hey did u think it can fit on my Lian Li PC-Q08B

The card is 10.5" long if I recall correctly (same length as a 6970). You might have an easier time searching with regards to compatibility with that; if it works with a 6970 it should be good to go for a 7970 :).

thanksss :D

One HIS from NCIX for me.
I will be happy if the card can reach 1,100MHZ 24/24.

lol.. some guy in the FS/FT forums trying to sell two HIS 7970's for 800 each!

"currently being shipped to me. will re-ship when i receive them"

Up and running on my Asus 7970 :D Going to test it out.

Well, for some reason, I ordered a Powercolor. I have terrible impulse control. Especially since I'm going to need a bigger PSU to replace the 5770 with this beast, and then I'm going to need a bigger CPU to balance it out. And then I'll need a bigger yadda yadda, etc. But at least I don't have a wife that's going to kill me...

There was a decline snafu with my bank at first, probably because this is the first $500+ Newegg purchase I've made (the others were a few hundred each). So, I don't know if I made it in time for this batch, because the Powercolors had already turned out of stock by the time I got on the phone with the bank to tell them to approve it. I called Newegg and they said they were pretty sure it put one on hold for me as soon as I placed the order and shouldn't be affected by the initial purchase decline. *crosses fingers*

Now to go buy a miniDP cable to hook it up to my iMac...

I tried this, but they said it was too late since my order has "entered shipping" (hasn't actually shipped, but shows "shipping soon").

Oh well.

Buy another one at $549, and then return the higher priced one (actually return the second one as the higher price one, since Amazon doesn't record serial numbers). No restocking fees (and you don't even have to open it anyway) so you are only out the shipping on the replacement.

Either that, or just tell their customer service rep that's what you are going to do if they don't give you the lower price. Really stupid of them not to price match when the alternative is so easy for you, and such a pain in the ass for them.

Just as a teaser, Im currently at 1200mhz core, 1701mhz memory and still climbing. Only at 1.231v as well :D
