7970 Owners...help me!

Okay, so I had a Gigabyte 7970 that artifacted in a number of older games/had coil whine, so I RMA'd it, and got a refund (since they were out of stock). I want to know if this was just a REALLY bad card or if there's something fundamentally wrong with the 7970. So I ask if some 7970 owners could run some games for me and tell me if they run into problems:

- Return to Castle Wolfenstein (artifacted like CRAZY on my 7970...and ran slowly).
- Quake 3 Arena (major rendering problems with my card)
- Far Cry (game would freeze upon launch...)

If these are problems with the 7970, then I won't get one. If they were just because I had a crap card, then I will really consider nabbing a 7970 again.
 
I tried Quake 3 Arena same as Quake Live and works with no problems.
But Far Cry blue screened my system, damn first game that did that from around 40 i tried since i got 7970's, not that i play original Far Cry but since you mentioned it i had to try and i had it in my Steam inventory something is definitely wrong with that game and drivers.
I did not try RTCW to lazy to install it.
 
Curious if some other 7970 owners can try original Far Cry and report back, BSOD with this game must be some serious issue with drivers and this game at least.
 
I havent had any trouble with mine yet, but only games i have are starcraft 2, wow, call of duty MW 2/3, dirt3 and counter strike source...
 
I've sadly already have moved on from my Sapphire 7970 but even OC'd to 1300Mhz on water I didn't have any artifacting on a variety of games I played.

My money is on you just got a faulty card.

OK i just did a quick Google search and Far Cry freezing on start-up problem has nothing to do with 7970 its old problem just move the lighting slider from ultra to high and the game works.
I get around 300fps at 8xAA all maxed at 2560x1600.
So for now all games in your list work perfectly you probably had a faulty card.

Still need confirmation for Return to Castle Wolfenstein...but thank you for the Far Cry confirmation!

I'm bored so i will reinstall the RTCW and try it, will let you know.
Regardless if this are the only games you play you don't need 7970 or even 5870 ;)

turn on opengl triple buffering
