what? the 7900gt already has 24 pipes.InorganicMatter said:So they took the 7900GT, added 4 more pipes, added HDCP, and are offering this for NO ADDITIONAL COST?!
And ATI's only response is to lower the price of the X1900XT to the same price as this card that will easily beat it out?
gg ATI, you just lost the midrange market.
you dont have time to read one paragraph but you have time to post an ignorant comment.joemama said:I don't get it...is this card somewhere between the performance of the 7950GX2 and the 7900GTX or does it pwn all including Ati's new X1950XT?
don't have time to read the article right now.![]()
its just a single gpu. did anybody even read the 2 or 3 sentences describing this card?Lord_Exodia said:The only way I see this card competing with the other cards for the midrange crown is if this is yet another Dual GPU card. Such as a toned down 7950GTX. The reports of the clock being what they are, may be rubbish.

if it was 2 gpu'sLord_Exodia said:.
Where does it say that the card will definitely only have 1 gpu? I read it but an overclocked 7900GT with 512MB memory already exists. I don't think that this card would come out as a single gpu card as it would be pointless. But I guess anything is possible
do you really think they would forget to say that it was a dual gpu card? its NOT. why would they even assume you would think it was anything more than a single gpu card?Lord_Exodia said:an upcoming GeForce 7950 GT planned for September 14. The card will reportedly be clocked at 550MHz with 24 pixel shader processors, 512MB of 700MHz memory (1.4GHz effective), and High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection built in as standard. Official pricing will be $299, just like the current GeForce 7900 GT that clocks in at 450MHz/660MHz by default and has half the memory. The GeForce 7950 GT really looks more like a GeForce 7900 GTX with 100MHz lower core and memory clocks and added HDCP support, which could make it a tantalizing choice for overclockers.

wouldnt you think it should say 7950 GT2
like how they named the 7950 GX2?

Maybe because "7950GT" sounds like a scaled down version of the 7950GX2 same as the difference between a 7900GT and 7900GTX? I finally read the article but I still don't see how this really fits in the lineup....especially with the various vendors like EVGA, BFG etc..already having several different versions of the same card family anyway. Makes the head spin if you are card shopping.trek554 said:do you really think they would forget to say that it was a dual gpu card? its NOT. why would they even assume you would think it was anything more than a single gpu card?
if you just use a little common sense you would realize ITS NOT.Lord_Exodia said:I'm not saying it will definitely be 2Gpu's it's just a hunch. this article doesn't clearly say anything concrete about it. They saw the name on a slideshow and are speculating. They can't tell me or you anything more about this card than we already know.
Again a single gpu would be pointless. This http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=512-P2-N568-AR&family=22 is already available so release this for what reason. Just a theory.

those memory and core clocks would be higher then their flagship 7950GX2. its only ONE gpu.
so the specs are rubbish and they forgot to tell us that it is a dual gpu card???Lord_Exodia said:Memory and core clocks may be rubbish. If you would use a little common sense and realize they only saw a name in a slide show, then you would realize the core clocks could be speculation.![]()

Yes, it seems quite pointless to me also. For example here is the EVGA lineup on just the 7 series family:Lord_Exodia said:Nevermind, I clicked on the link in the article to the actual chineese website where they had the slideshow and the card looks like a single gpu card.
Pointless release then. The quote of the day goes to llose
Why? Both the Superclock and Sig Series will outperform this card...basically it is a 7900GT 512MB with HDCP and slightly higher core/memory speeds. They could have easily kept the 7900 name and added something silly on the end instead the somewhat misleading "7950". Of course Nvidia (and ATI) are known for misleading naming schemes throughout the years.Lord_Exodia said:I'd say right about

7900GT CO
7900GT CO Superclock
7900GT KO
7900GT KO 512MB

7900GT Signature Series
Here <-----------------------------
7900GTX EGS
7900GTX EGS Superclock
7950GX2
7950GX2 Superclock
You have to remember, all the extra names tacked on in that list are eVGA's doing.joemama said:Why? But BTW, that would be nvidia's next logical move, if they want to attack that segment. A dual GPU card with only 512MB on the card. 256/256 at the $300 Price Point. This release seems pointless IMO
Were you unaware that there is already a 512MB 7900GT that has been out for over a month now? Bumping the stock clocks and adding HDCP (which may not be useful to some) is not really deserving of a name change...especially when that name is so close to the name of their top of the line card. This is marketing bs and nothing else..pakotlar said:This card is what the 7900GT should have been, namely the inclusion of 512MB of ram. This makes it a pretty good competitor to the x1900xt. I wouldn't say it's pointless, as it adds 256MB of ram, 100mhz core, and 200 (? whats the 7900gt clock again?) mhz on the ram. I'm sure we'll see cards like the evga super ko xxx lines but those are not nvidia sku's.
well if you remember there was a 7900GX2 before there was a 7950GX2. the GX2 is the thing that indicates whether it is a two gpu card or not. the 50 in 7950GX2 has nothing to do with it being a two gpu card. if the 7950GT makes you confused then that is your fault.joemama said:Were you unaware that there is already a 512MB 7900GT that has been out for over a month now? i think the point was that eVGA already has an overclocked 7900GT with 512MB ram. the only difference the 7950GT would add is the HDCP.foofighter06 said:Once eVGA and other third parties get their hands on the card....it should be worth it.
If they overclock it from retail like they did the 7800GT and 7900GT then it should be quicker than nvidia reference.
Keep that in mind....those are reference clocks....and few cards sold are kept at those speeds.
it will make a great card most 17 and 19inch lcd monitor users. the 7600gt just doesnt cut it at 1280x1024 in some games. it will probably drop well under $200 after the initial rush for it too.ep1taph said:I'm more excited about the return of a 20pipeline card: 7900GS. And for only 200 dollars. That's a very nice price point for the performance.
