I am having quite an annoying issue with my 7800GTX. Just tonight I did a fresh install of Xp-64 Bit. Using 77.72 drivers. Only game I have installed thus far is CS:S. Having not had a video card in weeks, gaming was hte first thing I did. However, after about a half hour into CS:S my card flipped out. I went from a smooth 100+ contant FPS to 6-8 fps. Thinking the game glitched out, I restarted the game. Still had super low FPS. Restarted, game ran fine. However, this time, after about an hour, same thing. Restart and it was fine. Made it about a half hour again and same problem. This is really fustrating, and being on a fresh install with no other games, and due to a lack of 64-bit drivers to test, I am having a hard time figuring out if its the card, the game, or drives. For the past 3-4 days, I have been running the card on a crappy install if XP, and I could run BF2 for hours without problems. CS didnt work then, because of some messed up files. Also, I am not OCing the card, and I am using a Zalman VC700Cu, so I know the card is not throtlling due to temps.

Anyone know what this might be?
 
Win xp-64x operatin system is known to have this issue. It's better to stick on to regular Win xp instead of 64 bit. Also, it's better to take an advantage of 64 bit in the future than today.
 
Do you have any graphical errors while the card is running CSS at 6-8 FPS?

Yes, I am aware of this.. however... I got XP-64 for free, and the legitimacy of the copy of windows XP 32-bit I have is questable. I have a legal licensce, but its from a school I help out at. The school has plenty of licenses to give out... but I am not sure if I am allowed to use it outside of the school or not, so its easier to just use this which is know is legit.

Nope...not a single bit of artifacting, corruption, ect. to be found. It just drops rediculosly low in fps.

sure doesnt seem like its easier, since your $500 video card wont work for more than 30 minutes.
 
Your overclock is far past stock speeds. Try lowering it. At least check your temps.

I have XP 64-bit as well, and zero problems in any games. HL2, Farcry, BF2, CoD, and Fear is what I have tried since Ive installed this a week ago. I too am stuck on 77.72 drivers because NV is slowwwwwww to release 64-bit drivers. Im using the 6.66 NF4 drivers as well.

As I stated, the first time this happened was when I was at stock speeds. My temps couldnt be better. Getting about 65C load and 45C idle. Much better than stock cooling, and since cards are out wiht 490/1300 stock clocks, I know for a fact its not temp/OC related. I have been monitoring my PSU rails also, stable as can be, so it can't be throtteling due to lack of power. I played the fear demo for a while today though, and didn't have a problem. I am hoping its a bug with HL2/CSS and the 64bit 77.72 drivers.
 
it might be a cold bug for the card i think some one else had a similar problem let me see if i can find it
 
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition has no such known issues unless you are doing something wrong. :rolleyes:
Benchmarks and reviews prove it is as fast, and in some cases faster than Windows XP 32bit. I have been running the full range of Source games, BF2, Far Cry x64 etc without any performance issues.

Your card could be one of the ones with the bios that freaks out when you have the fan disconnected, because last I checked, the Zalman doesn't use the standard header.
 
yeah i think its the drivers as well the 77.72 are terrible drivers, gives me bsods about nv4_disp.dll stopped after i updated also i hear there are glitches in the gfx for certain games as well

i went with the 77.77s and the bsods stopped happening, id try new drivers

I've never heard this and I've NEVER used a 7800GTX in anything but Windows XP x64 Edition. Never had any such issues.
 
Well, I downloaded the 77.77 drivers, but lazily didnt bother with DriverCleaner. Gave me tons of problems, such as the BSODing someone above described. So, I decided to do it right, ran driver cleaner and installed them again... but not bit of difference, i get the same odd framerate drop. Whats weird as that its only CSS. I played Garry's mod last night for like 4 hours with a buddy and didnt have a single problem. I have also been palying the fear demo alot, and not a single issue.

CSS is fucked, its doing this to me too since the last few updates (MSI RX800XT Stock), did cl_showfps and the frame rates are going from 10-120 in about half a second constantly starting from random times, 1min in 5min in 10min in, seems to be totally random. In the process of trying a reinstall of all source files. Im on XP64 as well. Never gave me an issue until a few days ago. Just this game.

edit-finished installing, something in the game is borked, theres others in the steam forum posting the same problem. For the record, if you get a new peice of hardware and its only doing something wrong in 1 game, dont automatically assume its broken.

Your issue is similar to mine, but different. Mine will be smoother at 100+, and then just drop for no reason, and stay low. They dont come back up. If i restart my computer it will fix, or if I go load a different game, exit, and load CSS agan it works. I have even gone as far as to Run 3dmark, wait for CSS to flip out, then go run it again...and scores are within a few points. After that 2nd 3dmark run, CSS would work fine again....its weird. I dont blame the card one bit, I blame drivers.
 
steam is no longer x64 compatible since the last update, so anyone having problems with CS:S or CS its not ur drivers or card or psu or anything
 
Weird problem...Check out steam forums, they might know something we don't.
 
you should try a battlefield2 demo just to make sure its not your card thats having problems
 
I had this problem a few days ago with my 6800.

I updated the agp driver and all is well (actually a little better than before). Dunno how pci-e boards work but you might wanna update your mobo's drivers from windows update.

I'm using the 77.77 drivers in win xp 64 btw.

Where did you hear this? Works fine for me playing HL2.
