7800 GT

Along with that, I think they are also holding the true ultra back.

If ATi eventually comes out with 32 pipelines in it's new card, nvidia will match,. The 24 pipeline card here now is just a placeholder. Once ATi gets their new stuff up to production nvidia will magically have 32 pipelines and todays GTX series will be able to be hacked into 32 pipeline cards..
 
Proud of nvidia... :) Hopefully ATI does the same thing, with availability upon release.
 
I wonder what the clocks on the 7800GT are gonna be?

375-385MHz on the core and 1.1-1.15GHz on the memory is my best guess. 400MHz on the core seems a bit too close to the GTX's 430 but if yields are really good then I suppose they may go for that? Anyone else wanna take a wild stab in the dark? Or maybe just try and guess the clock speeds instead? :p
 
The MSRP will be interesting too, $499 seems logical but I'd love to see it lower than that (duh). :)
 
The GT will probably be a lot more balanced in terms of fillrate/bandwidth. I have a very strong suspicion that when F.E.A.R and Unreal3 games start showing up - the pixel shading power of the G70 series will come up trumps and bandwidth will be (relatively) less important. It'd be interesting to see how the 7800GT fares against the 6800U in older titles.

Yeah I'd like to see PS 3.0 get utilized to the fullest so we can have some great looking games.
 
sweet. now i know what im gonna go PCIe with :D

heres hoping that when, if, nvidia releases a 32pipe G70 ultra, these cards can be unlocked... there are two quads that you can take a chance on in that case - even 28 pipes would be better than 24 ;)
 
Even if (I find it very unlikely) Nvidia managed to hide any pipes in the G70, they aren't addressable through the BIOS and thus can't be flashed to activate. They would've been known otherwise.
 
The Inq also said the 7800GTX would need two 6-pin PCI-E connectors, and use 225w.
 
I have a feeling this will be all the GTX cards that didn't make the "X" cut. :)

They had a good Track Record with me.. The Info about the G70 Being widely available upon release/ G70's 3dmark 05 score/ BFG's Stock clock/ The release date of the G70/ AMD FX57's Release Date... ;)
 
Captain obvious to the rescue, who didnt know that a 7800gt is coming? I mean come on.
The inq doesnt even have any concrete info, just a bunch of guesses that anyone of us could of come up with :rolleyes:

NVIDIA is preparing their GeForce 7800 GT for launch within this week and similarly retail stores worldwide will carry the stock as soon as it is launched. GeForce 7800 GT possess 24 pipes and 8 vertex shaders just like the 7800GTX except that the core and memory clock speeds are lowered. The reference 7800GT card is supposingly clocked at 335MHz core and has 1.1GHz memory clock using 2.0ns GDDR3 memories. No doubt, some card manufacturers will be fitting 1.6ns memories on this card to make their 7800GT cards more attractive. The best thing is that this card will be priced at US$499 which is $100 lower than the current 7800GTX card.

Well, *if* this is true then I got the price right but I was 40MHz out on the core clock. 335MHz seems very low to me but maybe they just don't want the GT to cut into the GTX sales too badly. I'm sure the AIB guys will release GT cards with much higher clocks though, especially since we've got air-cooled GTX cards appearing at speeds up to 490MHz core clock.

I wonder if we'll get instant-availability with the GT cards like we did with the GTX ones?
