According to the guy who loves giving away 8800GTX cards to a complete stranger, you can use a 7600GS as a dedicated physics card with the upcoming 680i/680a chipsets.

The question remains wether this 3rd card would be implimented in the drivers and how long it will be before it's implimented.
 
... And how long it takes someone to hack a non 680i board... Letting them use a third PCIe card as a physics card :p
 
i thought physics was the whole point of the 3rd slot? same with rd600. Thats old news for both chipsets.
 
Argh! :mad: I just got a 590 chipset based mobo not that long ago, I hope that doesn't mean I'll have to miss out on the exciting physics bits. :eek:
 
Can't you use any SLI motherboard for physics if you are not using both slots for graphics? I planned on keeping one of my 7900gts for physics to run with my current 8800gts and SLI mb.
 
I imagine it will all be dependant on the software.
nVidia has had the plan all along for the third PCI-e slot to be something other than graphics and physics does seem logical.

I dont imagine why an 8800 couldnt stand alone and the second SLI card be for physics or whatever, again it will depend on software design and most likely the chipset. I dont know enough about the 680i to say there's some secret weapon in there that will allow physics, but its definately coming.

I have a spare 7600GT KO I cant wait to try out.
 
I hope they allow it on the Intel chipsets...1 8800GTX and 1 7600GT would be a sweet setup for physics :).
