7000 series ASIC quality ?

Just curious what sorta ASIC others are seeing in the 7k series GPUZ shows this

curious if there is any connection between quality and vendor.

it gave 83.1% on my primary card and 77.7% on my secondary.
not too sure what to make of these numbers myself tbh.
 
How to you chek this? what should i click, and does it work for 6970?

Also what version og GPU-Z i need to use?
 
What does this mean exactly?

The score helps you determine the leakage of your particular chip. Lower leakage(higher ASIC quality) means it can run at stock speed at lower voltage and usually overclocks better on air. Higher leakage chips need more voltage at stock and usually don't clock as high on air-cooling, but respond extremely well to extreme cooling like liquid nitrogen.
 
I have two MSI 7970 reference cards bought on launch in january, with low ASIC. 59 and 60%. They both clock to 1125/1575, 20% Powertune and no extra voltage needed. I havent tried any higher. The load temp stays around 70c on both, fans on auto.
 
GPU-Z won't run on my machine, so I can't tell you (no idea why, windows popped up with "has stopped working" as soon as I open it). My 7950 manages 1250 core, but only 1450. The core is obviously pretty good, but the memory not as much.

The GPU is only one part of the video card. If the ASIC quality is extremely low that's probably not such a good thing. But even if it were really high or "perfect," other parts of the video card will hold it back, like PCB circuitry, VRM quality, etc. Just like how, if you have the fastest GPUs in the world in quad-fire but your CPU is a E6600, your CPU will be holding back your GPUs.

tl;dr: ASIC quality is meaningless by itself and I wouldn't worry about it unless it were really low, like sub-60%, because chances are even a 100% quality ASIC would be held back by less-than-100% quality PCB, VRM, etc.
 
I've got a MSI Twin Frozr 7850 that has an 86.3% ASIC. This card overclocks like crazy without any voltage adjustment since it doesn't have software voltage control. So far I've been able to get 1150MHz core and 1450MHz memory stable in all games and benches.

I've also got a Gigabyte Windforce GTX 670 that I haven't started overclocking yet but has a 100% ASIC so I don't know if these numbers mean anything or not, but we'll see when I start overclocking the 670.
 
90.1% :p Sapphire 7950 950mhz edition. Overclocks like a monster, just can't control VRMs on air. Can game at 1225mhz core on air (accelero xtreme 7970 cooler). Elpida RAM, though :( So literally no overclock headroom there.

Youd be better with stock cooling. Had 2 dual x cards and even at 1.3v and crossfire heat vrm never broke high 60s to low 70s. Accelero have horrible vrm cooling. Makes the whole idea pointless. "Yay my GPU runs in the 50s but my vrm now run in the 90s on stock voltage". Its dissapointing.

It does mean something. Especially on the nvidia 600s. I had an zotac AMP that boosted to 1293 stock and 2 670 ftw signature 2 that boosted to 1202 and 1228 stock. All did over 1300 on stock voltage and all were between 90-95% asic. Had a wf3 670 with great cooling that would only do around 1270 with 1.21v bios and only had 72% asic. So as long as your getting a quality card (anything with a reference 680 PCB or better for example on a 670) asic matters a lot.

Hooded Dutchman, my stock VRM cooling is stronger than the Acceleros cooling (that's not to say the Accelero's is poor, it's just comparatively not as good). I hjave left that on, and mounted the Accelero cooler.

As I have such a high ASIC score, I have a lot of heat created at lower voltages. My VRMs get too hot at anything above 1.139v (at 1.139v I can game at 1250mhz). Stock cooling is not enough at that voltage for this card. It's a hard beast to tame, but once you can control it a bit it can push insane clocks at low volts.

On the other end of the scale, I can game at stock core clock (950mhz) at 918mv (down from stock of 1012mv) stably. Even lower possibly, just haven't tried.

Your DualXs at 1.3v were undoubtedly low ASIC scoring, and wouldn't break 1200mhz I imagine. My card would explode at 1.3v. Mine is 1250 on air, and I've no doubt I could break 1350 on water (FFS I am only at 1.139v as it stands).

Water only takes it to 1300 @ 1.219v. Beyond that it hits a temp wall, like it did previously. Needs sub 40c for 1300 to yeild no artifacts in OCCT; still game stable above. However anything more and it must need sub 35 or so.

So, I'd imagine you would hit around 1325-1350. Depends on your temp wall.

I have benched 1275 on air on Valley, etc. But the VRMs get very hot very fast.

I think if you mod a bit (custom water, high quality thermal padding etc. you can bring the temps down a lot, Sonda5 has benched 1370/1900 AFAIK on his 7950 950mhz ed.
