But my Windows can shutdown in 8 seconds. Whoaaaa.
my car PC shuts down in like 3 seconds:p

If you machine takes 5-7 seconds to post, it only takes 1 second to get into windows? This is getting better. Regardless of how your timing it, a fresh load isn't going to help. Got that video yet? I'm dying to see it.

He can't be talking about just POST times, because MSconfig doesn't help in POSTing. The thread was started because of Michael's claim of boot to windows in 7.7, not POST times, which is just as likely at Nephron's 8 second claim. All BS.

Mines take a good 40 seconds or so, because it goes to the ASUS BLAH BLAH BLAH SCREEN then the SOMETHING SOMETHING SCREEN but my computer is a averagely quick comp.

Hey, if i can post a video, i think others should to.

Its hard to believe that ANY pc from a TOTAL OFF STATE, to WINDOWS ICONS is less than 15.

Let me see some vids exactly like mine posted earlier.

:D

Yep, I'm stillin saying BS until I see a video. And just clarify, we're talking about the time from you push the power button until you see your desktop and the cursor is not an hourglass. kthx

Post takes about 3-4 seconds to finish. Then window bar only moves like a cm which takes not that long so all in all, its about 7 to 8 seconds. And about the video. ill have one soon.

Umm, This is what MS have to say about BOOTVIS, which isnt available anymore from MS website...

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/platform/performance/fastboot/bootvis.mspx

The second link, last updated Dec. 4. 2001 and is for Win ME, partly Win2k...

Third link, Last updated 1999, and is for Win98....

Sure many of the tricks still works, but man, most use XP and 2K here in 2004, with tons of programs, so 7.7 second bootup, naah.

So if you dont post much on the [H], atleast read some more :p

just make the video for us so that the flaming can either
A) Rise to increadible heights
or
B) Stop once and for all

Desktop in my sig boots in a 1minute 20seconds with WinME and boots in 55 seconds with win98

Having to initalize 5 video cards adds about 30 seconds to the boots time.

Laptop in my sig boots win98 in 40 seconds and win95A in 8 seconds

The fastest I've had a computer boot was with a home brew P166mmx with 96mb ram and win95A that booted in 7 seconds to the desktop. To bad the cpu fried..

A: The United States Navy couldn’t have said it better, “Michael, I have associates who say they want Dell because of the support of when something goes wrong (laughing) and something will always go wrong with a Dell. And getting assistance was extremely troublesome. I went through the same thing with Gateway and Compaq. When you need the support, who are going to end up speaking with? The maker of the system or some hired phone support of Dell, who doesn’t even know the specifics of your system, but only by a textbook they have in front of them that may only solve half of the problem. I only choose Michael's Computers over any other company because it’s far better to know the maker and someone you can trust and is a Christian.”

good thing he's christian unlike those damn pagan del guys and Jewish Dell folk :p

Peace

Damn jewish foke huh? Let me tell you something.. Im jewish so shut the hell up. lol.

And about the video. ill have one soon.
We're waiting with baited breath.

Maybe this is why I dont post hardly anymore on the [H]..
Maybe it's because your spewing BS, and you get called out on it. Those links are quite dated, as MindBuster already pointed out. Next thing you know, we'll get a video of some machine loading to a DOS 6.22 prompt in 7 seconds.

Troll. Cave. GO.
Agreed.

I wish my machines booted up as fast as you guys' machines.
How fast do you need the machine to boot and how often do you turn it off?

All my machines have SCSI and I have the drives set to spin up when the controller send the start command, right there it's about 20-30 seconds added to the boot time on the server spinning up all 6 SCSI drives.
I'd say my machines take about a minute to boot up and be ready for use.

If your computer is stable and doesn't crash.... how often do you reboot it? How does 10 seconds really matter?

exactly. my machines are on 24/7, only time I reboot is when software installs require it or when I install/uninstall hardware.

doesnt he say boot to windows. this is completely possible. he probably is claiming something from power on till you get to the load screen, or untill load screen is done. i see that being possible in 7.7seconds. its not completely into windows, but it is booting TO windows.

He can split hairs all he wants, the dicussion was based off of Michael's computer 8 second boot claim. That is from power to desktop, see DOS6.22 comments above. Oh sure, I could load an OS in 7.7 seconds...

He also mentions apps that speed up boot times like bootvis/msconfig which can help limit startup applications times, so he's taking that into account. In other words, he's talking out of his ass just like Michael's computers... and he's telling us to "Go back to comp tech."

HA!

I'm telling ya...you could do it with a couple SSDs in RAID0 and a fast processor:cool:

Obviously NOT what Michael has, though.

mmmm SSDs in RAID0. <drool>

I wont say it isnt possible, but i will say that someone, somewhere needs to buy a machine instead of sandagging him. Then give the pc a try. THEN post a review bashing him.

if he hasnt sent a review unit to any place, they dont exist. if his technology is so amazing and does things that no one else can, he wouldve been noticed and reviewed a LONG time ago

HA, I have a 6.54 second boot time. You all suck... :p ;)

We are still waiting for this video of your super fast boot time Nephron. I say shens... Prove it.

In my experience, I have found 30 seconds to be an average boot time for a Windoes XP machine with 512MBs of RAM. Sure you can get faster by using 10K drives and RAID yada yada yada.....

when i first install i get under 10. however i NOTICE the huge increases as i install hardware and reboot. drivers slow it down, period. unless you have something simple that doesnt have a lot of devices, or at least not a lot installed, theres no issue. network is the big slowdown becuase it waits for DHCP, so a computer w/o a network adapter installed (can have it but no drivers) would boot significantly faster than one with.

That right there cleared it all up. I said on a fresh copy of xp. I didnt say I loaded drivers and shit, remember when I said the xp bar moves like a cm on a fresh reinstall. Well yeah, because it has nothing to load! Also, from a cold boot. When I turn on my laptop I see post for like 1/3 of a second and then I see is the loading windows screen. So all in all. My boot up time is very minimal. As you can see, you guys cant read what I say.

Also, about this video. I will barrow my friends cam and record this shit. And you guys that didnt believe me.. You guys can just drool over it.;)

But what the fuck good is a fresh install of windows xp? What good is a refridgerator if you don't put anything in it? What good is a car if you don't drive anywhere?

We'll be waiting anxiously.

lol.. What do you think. Of corse I do. I just like to have a super clean system. So I reinstall every 5 months.

you, my friend, need to invest in GHOST;)

Ive actually thought about useing norton ghost.. But I just didnt like the idea of it.

Why not? You reinstall so often, I'd think Ghost would be great. Image the drive after installing service packs, chipset drivers, upgrading DX9, installing most current vid drivers at ghosting time, then image the drive. Then you have an image of a pristine Windows install, but without the hassle of actually having to install the egregious stuff everytime.

Don't know what everyone's formatting so much for; I've had installs for years and they're still as zippy, because quite frankly a few more seconds at boot won't kill me.

lol but wasn't the point that boot times minus drivers/software are irrelevant....? oh well, nm, enjoy your 10 second pre-useable-computer boot time :D

ok guys. I just got a new computer and Im at desktop in less than 14 seconds (after power on). modified msconfig that took off 10 seconds plus prolly I get another few seconds faster If I overclock, maybe dunno, so thats 10 seconds with a spankn new comp

windows xp
pentium 2.8
512 ramz

Post =~2 seconds at best. Loading a video driver=~2 for the video state to change alone, much less reading the 30MB driver off of the disk. That's over 1/2 the time we are talking about, and we have not even begun to load mobo, sound, network drivers, or starting services.

Again, if your going to show a crippled OS with no drivers loaded your still full of shit. The original comparison was against a fully functional XP load, ready for gaming.

When you get that video make sure to open device manager, ok?

edit: People who reload so much usually don't take care of their system very well. Why is it getting so 'unclean' in the first place? But since you do, your shooting yourself in the foot my not investing in ghost.
