So...
there is a 6m ppd gap between hard and evga...

Ideas to eliminate this?

What can you do?

Who can you recruit?

:)

If anyone can hook me up with a cheap hex core, I'd be happy to upgrade. Otherwise, the ~40-50k ppd I average right now is probably where it's going to stay unless I can scare up some cash for Ivy Bridge later.

I will see what I can do... you care about es ?
jebo what stepping is yours?

My next box is a I7 940 with a 460 video card. It should start producing in the next 3 or 4 days. Depends when I get the ambition to put it all together. It is laying here in pieces right now. That should add maybe 50K per day.

Now if I had a hex core....

Forget about closing it completely for now. I mean most people are already running everything they have. Now maybe if a box of hex cores and another box of motherboards and ram and PSUs and HDs manage to fall off a truck in front of my house....and somehow my neighbors power line gets extended to my Apt. Then maybe just then.

More people is really the only answer.

Well, that or a bank job and cleaning out neweggs stock of hex cores.

I'm going to bring another i7 online in a couple weeks, waiting for parts.

Depending on price drops and the like SB is super tempting to me to help fill up the rack.

I just got a new dual E5630 machine online that's running bigadv at the moment.

Well when I win the lotto I plan on building a 10m ppd farm. Until then I'm too poor to fold anymore lol :(

Just joined yesterday. Added about 20k PPD but I'm concerned about the heat production and power costs so this may just be a temporary boost.

HA, I always think to myself if I hit the lottery big time or if I were famous and made millions what kind of folding farm would I have. :D Maybe just rack after rack of video cards

some one give me 7 grand so i can build a quad socket AMD opteron 6180SE 2.5Ghz magny cour rig :p

lol

no honestly we need to put our boots in PG's asses and force them to release the openCL client already.

with the client alone and if pg doesn't neuter the PPD for AMD/ATI cards we should make up 1-1.5 million PPD from that alone.

If I had a spare board or box to run any of those in, I'd bite, but none look like a particular upgrade from my i7 920, and I don't have a spare rig. Correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe the Q3Q6 would clock a little higher, being 32nm? Like I said, give me a reason to be interested and I might consider it.

If you want to take it for a spin in your current rig let me know...
It didnt like seeing the ram on my boards... but then I saw I had a busted cap...

My only concern is whether my BIOS would support it. Any way you can tell me to check that? It's not listed on the manufacturer's website, obviously.

lol... xeons work fine in consumer boards... trust me lol...

you can also ask Jebo .... he has a hexacore I found...

another friend has one of the a0 hexacores... it didn't overclock at all...

The datasheet on that one is a little shy. Any more you can tell me about it? L2 size? "Supported" memory speeds?

given its specs... I am pretty sure its an E5645...

they are all pretty much the same. i believe the xeons are ddr3 1066 but it supports up to 2000 like every other i7/xeon varient.

i'm going to guess the L2 cache is 1024KB or 256kb per core based on other similar processors. since the hex core version is 1536 which would mean its 256kb per core as well.

The es I got was an x5650.

A1 stepping iirc. Running at 3.7 atm.

lol...what did you have in mind...
I have 771, 775, F, G34, 1155, 1366, and 1567

I am a scrap monkey... when it hits the piles its a ffa...

when we moved building everyone ditched the protos they didn't need... so I think I got like 40 cpus out of the piles over the course of 2 days 30min each time....

I basically strip anything I get rid of... and gather more... then double up what I want to keep to make monstrosities...

anything in 1156? or maybe am3?

nada...they would be at my house if I had lol...

Oh well. I'm trying to figure out if I can put together the rest of a 1366 box cheap enough to convince my parents it's time for an upgrade. I have the memory, hdd, cpu cooler, and graphics, so I just need a cheap case (easy) psu (not as easy) and motherboard (hard). I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

The structural cracks with sandy bridge is stopping traffic and will take some time to fix. :p

Joke aside, SB is impacting the team while Nvidia continues to sell more cards. The ATI client is still in development. The hex club will continue to grow.

Mind "the gap" - Wish we could.

well right now minding the gap is gathering new members...
we can do that...

the 2.13ghz hexacores are folding nicely together... they are not going anywhere lol...

I have a 2.66 and 2.8 a0 that are by themselves... a friends has the 2.8 it won't oc at all... I think the a0 is a bad batch for overclocking personally...

jebo got the good one it seems...

I'd be willing to play with the 2.66 if it's not in use. Still looking into throwing together another cheap boxen to maybe run one of the quads.
