ok i have been reading up on this little switch on my ref 6970 whats the deal some people say if i flick the switch i will get better performance others say nothing will hapen others say i have to flick it then over clock to notice anything and others say it will overclock just as high with out changing the switch position....................WTF

any one have an honest answer
 
Flip it and see what happens. From hat others say then nothing bad will happen.
(kinda want to see what will happen)
 
Well, firstly, please use punctuation and grammar as it makes your posts much easier to read.

The switch on a reference 6970/6950 is a dual video BIOS switch. It allows you to change to to a fallback if you fuck up messing around with a BIOS for some reason and, on the 6950, it allows you to flash a BIOS with 1536 shades and unlock extra performance, basically turning your card into a 6970.
 
AFAIK it's a dual BIOS switch and you can use it to test different overclocks without fear of bricking the card.

Not completely sure for the 6970, though. For the 6950 people used it to flash 6970 BIOS and unlock shaders.

I will play with it tonight. I will also do some overclocking/benchmarking and see what the results are.

Well played :D

As for the switch, you could find your stable overclock and then flash that voltage and clock speed so you don't need to have any overclocking program to run it at those clocks. Still have another BIOS as stock backup too.

o sweet that is great idea :) thank you. are there any walk throughs on how to do this?
 
Search on google on flashing the 6950 to the 6970 using 6950 modified bios. Same programs can be used to read the current bios off your card and modify and flash back. Make sure you keep a backup of the original BIOS.

just googled it. i will play with it tonight lets hope i break my crap so i can buy new :)
