6970 Crossfire Issue

Blows. I don't think 11.7 will make a bit of difference either. I can't see 11.6 causing one slot to work well and the other to not work. Gotta be either a hardware conflict or hardware failure.
 
That is my conclusion as well. I can try going through ASUS' warranty support (the board is within their warranty, I'm sure), though I'd almost rather sell my 460s and save up some extra cash to do the full bit anyway, rather than go computerless for however long it takes ASUS to do their bit.

If this is where the trail ends, thanks for all the help, guys!
 
All I know is that I had my card working in the 2nd slot alone, and wouldn't work in the first slot until I found those power connectors. But I have an MSI board. Sorry you couldn't find the issue.

just curious, not sure if you tried this.. but have you tried running GPU-z to see if that top card is running at the correct pci-e speed? 16x or 8x or what ever your motherboard uses. wonder if its actually running at 4x or something really low which would effect the 6970 more than the gtx 460.. was just a last resort thing i thought of when i was checking the stats on my video card earlier and remembered you could check it.
 
The cards are running at x8/x8 in GPU-Z, as they should be (the mobo can only do x8/x8 in Crossfire/SLI, but runs at x16 if only one slot is used).

I'm honestly just going to save up and replace the mobo at this point. Considering one 6970 is as fast or faster than my 460s in SLI, I'll sell them and bide my time until I can afford an 1155 mobo/CPU (probably an i5-2500k).
