6950 downclocks differently after 11.2

I just installed 11.2 and my video card now downclocks differently during 2D mode. Before, it would downclock to something really low like 250/100 or something like that. Now, it downclocks to 500/1250 which causes temps to remain around 55 C. This in turn causes my custom fan profile to run the fan at 29% which is already too loud.

Is there a way to get it to downclock back to the lower clocks?
 
Funny you mentioned that. I don't have loud fans but I did notice the it down clocks to 500 instead of 250 now. Could it be a setting I enabled. I checked that box that says keep cards in high power state but then again that my be for crossfire configs only. Hmm
 
10.0, not that it matters, as they're talking about downclocking in general.

EDIT: Actually, 10.0 has an option for DXVA2...

ah, I see. And I guess 10.0 is what I get for being out of the loop for almost 6 months, lol... :(
 
Maybe they upped the sensitivity for GPU flash? Try closing all your browsers...
 
FWIW I can get away with 23% fan speed at 500mhz clocks on my 6970 which is barely any different to the 20% I normally force it to at idle.
 
Today I'm checking in afterburner and it's showing 250 and 150. Strange though, yesterday it was 500. Not sure what that's all about, but I know I haven't gamed today... yet ;)

Maybe it's after a gaming session that it doesn't clock down correctly. I'll look into that.
 
Might have just had a bugged browser window from flash that hadn't closed when you thought it had.

There are three power states.
500 is one and 250 is the ultra low one.
500 should be at very light load.

I've played games that used such wooden graphics that the cards didn't even go in 3d mode, because the driver couldn't detect the gpu doing any real 3d work *cough soldier front cough*.
 
I think that may be happening for me in certain cases but the power draw of 880mhz and 500mhz is very similar, as afaik they use the same voltage.
