Can you guys justify the $100 price tag difference in those two chips? I mean if i want a little more performance i could buy the 6750 and oc it a little or just buy the 6850 and just be happy with that. Which one do you guys recommend?

A E6750 would overclock to 3GHz no problem. So save the greenbacks. :)

Only reason to get the 6850 is if you're looking for a potential higher OC. I ran my 6750 @ 3.5 GHZ. Some people are getting 3.6 to 4.0 on the 6850's. I figured in the end it was not worth 100 bucks for a 9 multiplier instead of an 8 that the 6750 has.

Not worth it.

IMO if you're spending that much you should just opt for a quad. $50 more for twice as many cores.

Actually the E6850 and E6750 OC about the same give or take. I've seen people hit 3.8Ghz with their E6750.

I heard the E6420 is the same as the E6750. Is it true? Does the E6420 oc to the same level as a E6850?

Not exactly the same. They both have 4MB L2 cache and an 8x multiplier. But thats where the similarities end. The E6420 is clocked in at 2.13Ghz and its max OC is around 3.6Ghz give or take, most likely 3.4Ghz. The E6750 is clocked in at 2.66Ghz and it's max OC is around 3.8Ghz to 4.0Ghz. So no the E6420 does not OC to the same level as the E6850.

Also, if you were planning to buy a new E6420, don't. The E6750 actually costs less than the E6420 on many sites.

The E6420 is B3 stepping, IIRC. The E6750 is G0 stepping. Both the E6750 and E6850 are binned the same, so they share the same OC potential, as Danny mentioned above.

I have an E6750 with a high VID  but I can still reach 3.8Ghz. I know a couple people with low VIDs that can reach 3.8Ghz with 1.45v on their E6750s, and 4.0Ghz on 1.525v.

BTW, my temps with my Ultima90 and Panaflo fan are... E6750 @ 3.8Ghz (1.55v):
28°C, 52°C: Ultima90
37°C, 52°C: Tuniq
22°C Ambient

Since i building a new rig im just waiting for intels next move with nahlem and maybe use that

I've got an e6850, and it oc'ed to 3.6Ghz with stock fan, stock voltage, stock everything. Temps rose about 5 degrees to 45-50. It's a great CPU

Thanks for the update.

It was a great chip for its time, but over-priced during its time. The later model E6850s, of course, could OC better than the earlier models, further separating its OC threshold from the E6750. But then the E8400 came out, and both chips reached EOL.

E6850 and E6750 are the last of the 65nm dual cores right?

In the E6000 series, yes.

I'm going to put one of those new conroe chips in my BH6.

Just kidding. :p

Took me a while to catch the age on this thread.
