Okay, I am building a newcomputer, let me give the specs real quick, before I get into my problem:
c2d e6600
2gb corsair
EVGA 7900GS
250gb parralel recording sata drive
light-on lightscribe drive
Xclio PS

Basically, I am deciding on my mobo... How important is it as far as the speed of the cimputer? I want to overclock to 3.4ghz on stock, and don't intend to purchase any cooling.

So basically, my budget of $1,000 just barely allows for this motherboard:
Asus p5w DH Dlx

which I like for the wifi onboard, and sweet remote...

But I was told that the 680i boards were good.
EVGA 680i w/ sli:

What is teh main difference between the two. The sli is nice, but I don't really need it, and the FSB speed is higher, but isn't that mainly limited by the processor???

The cheaper of the two comes w/ a remote, and onboard wifi, both of which I would use _alot_, but what advantages does the 680i have? Are these the newest?

Plus, ASUS is a much better name in motherboards than EVGA, who is more about video cards...

I don't know, which should I get. Getting the 680i means I need to get cheaper ram, and a 7600gt rather than a 7900GS.

eVGA didn't make the board, Foxconn did. Foxconn has manufactured all kinds of things computer related for years. The board seems to be a quality part so far.

Additionally, I own both boards, and both are great. I never used the remote on my P5W DH and I don't care about the wireless access point. The real reason to switch from the P5W DH Deluxe to the eVGA 680i is if you need SLi support, which the P5W DH Deluxe doesn't have.

well, the evga has a faster fsb speed, but does that matter?

Not a present, from a pure overclocking standpoint the eVGA 680i is superior, generally speaking.

I don't think you'll be able to find a a 680i base mobo for the same price that you will find a P5W DH. Also, unless you planning to run SLi, don't bother with the 680i base mobo. Hello if you haven't the check the Asus Striker is going for $400!!

If you need/want the remote and wifi, and you don't need SLI, it seems like the decision is made for you. Most of the P5W's max out somewhere around 400mhz on the bus speed, and at 9x400, you're talking 3.6Ghz. I think you'll run out of room on your CPU before you do on a P5W personally (I know I did).

ive had both also, and they are about the same. so if sli isnt an issue, get the asus. the evga will do higher fsb, slightly higher clock speed, much higher ram speed, and 1t . the asus has a lot of features/accessories, clock for clock performs a little better, constant bios updates, better layout. my cpu runs about 10C cooler at the same vcore on the evga. evga undervolts a lot on vcore, like .045v. asus has pretty bad vdroop. vdroop on the evga has yet to be determined. works out pretty even. if you are not going to do a lot of screwing around, get the asus. if you like tweaking, and getting every last drop out of your cpu/ram (mostly ram), get the evga.

The P5W DH is more stable. There has been several BIOS revisions for the P5W DH and I think they finally got all the bugs worked out while the 680i is brand spanking new and there are a few bugs in that chipset. And if you'll be using the wifi, then go for the ASUS. Also it comes with 3 PCI slots if you have a bunch of addon cards like me (sound card, tv tuner, etc).

I can attest to some bugs with the 680i. Mainly, all being sound related.
