Ok, this is really simple, is the info displayed in the Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow config window below normal at all?

This question stems from some serious stability problems I'm having that manifest themselves exclusively in games. At first I thought it was a RAM problem, see here:

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=860715

But further testing has revealed that the few memory errors I was getting were nothing out of the ordinary... Both sticks Memtested at 2-2-2-10 independently w/o issues (didn't run the second for more than 3 hours but I'm still crashing with either or both).

So I'm back to thinking something's seriously wrong with my video card. Basically the system is Prime stable in Windows but games either lock up or crash with the following error message:

P.S. Gonna yank a Radeon 9600 out of another system later today so I can at 'least open up Splinter Cell even if it's on low settings and see if it crashes with the same error message whenever I quit it (or see if HL2 crashes as well, if Steam would just work again, grr).

maybe its too high of an overclock on your vid card? you using stock voltage?

Forgot to add, rigth now everything's set back to stock speeds, I don't even have the extra pipes on it enabled right now. Everything on the card is basically stock, I even reset my system back to stock speeds as well and the same problem cropped up (think I explained this on my other post, forgot to mention it here, sorry).

The settings in my sig are basically from when I was stress-testing within Windows (using Prime + rthdribl + a looped MP3 etc.). I had run rthdribl to stress the vid card and raise it's temps while monitoring them simultaneously (they were quite normal and even good, 47C idle and no more than 65C load).

I get this message when i overclock to high.....no idea.....but at 242x9 i will get this error everyone once in a while.....at 241x9 i DONT get this error at all.

Like I said... stock speeds right now. :(

few things to try.....try underclocking your chip....like 197 FSB, also which drivers are you using for card? I went from the ones off nvidia's site to the 71.24. Maybe that might help....Fast writes disabled....make sure you disable that "search for MDA resources" also disable that "DBI Output for AGP transfer" I know that some sites recommend you use both of these features for performance, but i found it to do NOTHING for performance and makes 3d games totally unstable.

Another thing would be to hook up a fan to the CPU fan header on the board. For some reason when i first got this board, it wouldnt boot up at al, even if i moved up the FSB 1mhz. I had to disable the Cool - N - Quiet feature in the bios. This let me overclock higher then stock.

These should all be in your AGP setup in BIOS. Try these settings and see. This is how my system is setup right now and running NP. Our systems are VERY similar in parts. So it may help to run it the same exact way as mine.

Have you done Prime95 at stock speed just to see if it stable? Might want to run it at stock speeds just to rule out the possibility that it might be something with your chip.

PS, if you cant find the 71.24 drivers anywhere (i dont want to link other sites on post) send me a PM, i will link where you can get them.

I'm using the 67.02s, which are basically the same as the current official ones 'cept they added that LOD bias tweak for games like BF1942 where there was some texture shimmering. Not sure why I should underclock my chip further from stock settings when it's proven to be Prime stable even at it's OC settings... According to RivaTuner Fastwrites are enabled, I think I remember that being a headache when I installed the 9600 on the other system so I'll try running with it disabled in a short bit.

Not sure what either of those last two settings are or even where they're changed, more details? I've got a fan hooked up to one of the fan headers on the board though, the CPU one (the Panaflo 92mm L1A in my sig). Cool N Quiet's always been disabled in BIOS, I didn't even install the drivers to use it.

I've done extensive Prime testing at the OC speeds and I've let it run for a bit at stock speeds, either way it seemed stable, I don't think I need to run it for 12+ hrs at stock when it ran for 12+ at the OC speeds in two different modes with no issues, I'm running stock speeds while trying to diagnose this just in case, as I've said.

Thanks for the tips, gonna go disable Fastwrites and look around for those other two settings.

.

In the AGP portion of your BIOS, where you change the AGP Ap. size, disable fast writes etc etc.

Also, i was able to prime higher then 241, but it would drop in games and give me that BSOD you get. I primed 10 hours at 243x9, but when i would run any 3dapp it would crash. Backed it down to 241 and games run perfect.

Something else you should check is what version VIA 4-in-1 drivers are you using? Anything lower then 4.55 will install the VIA version AGP driver which alot of people having problems with them. If you using the 4.55 and havent installed any lower version then you ok, since the 4.55 dont install these VIA agp drivers.

Yeah thanks, I found 'em easy enough in the BIOS... Both MDA resources and DBI output were disabled. FW was enabled, I disabled it... Splinter Cell still crashes with the same error whenever I quit it. Like I said, I'm running stock speeds while I test this so the OC is not the issue.

I'm using the 4-in-1s that came with the mobo, 4.53 I believe... They were like one version older than the newest ones out. I had read about the VIA AGP driver problems and whatnot, the people I had spoken to that had the A8V hadn't had any problems with VIA's AGP driver so I used those. I also tried using the newer drivers, no difference whasoever, only difference in them is support for K8T890 anyway I believe.

I did remember this when I started troubleshooting the problem and I went to Device Manager and told it to roll-back the VIA CPU to AGP 2.0 Controller... It went back to an even older driver (I'm guessing the one supplied by XP SP2, my OS disc already has SP2), it didn't make any difference with regards to the crashes though. Just made the system slower in games really.

I dunno if I've mentioned it before but 3dmark 05 runs fine and I score in-line with what my card should be scoring at stock speeds... This is just bizarre, I'm really starting to think the card's just faulty and I'm stil very curious about the message seen in the first screenshot I posted above (Splinter Cell config).

When I quit that util and when I first installed it the thing kept saying how my vid card didn't meet the min requirements... Is this normal with non-WHQL NVidia drivers or is that unsupported feature in the SS (I circled it in red now so it's more obvious) a critical problem? I'm gonna try and yank the 9600 out of the other rig and test with it tonight.
