6800 GO OC? uNlocking Pipes?

Don't they all ready have 16 pipes? Check first by downloading RivaTuner. RivaTuner is the same program used to unlock the pipes if they are locked, btw.

The 6800 GO ultra is 12 pipes. I imagine that the chip itself is 12 pipes so it can't be unlocked, but it's remotely possible that it's a 16 pipe chip.

Did nvidia actually design a new fab just for the 6800 GO or did they do what everyone does and lock down 4 pipes? I'd bet on the latter, especially for a cheaper product, because fabricating new chips is expensive...you dont do it for the economy line..

It could be based on the PCI express version of the 6800NU which is native 12 pipes (not unlockable)

GTOs are very obscure... weren't only a few of them made for Dell systems? :confused:
 
Overclocking on laptops is generally going to be pretty limited & not the best idea anyways.
 
lol I'm stupid... I thought we were talking about the 6800 GTO... I need to wake up before I start posting :eek:
 
no hes talkin about the 6800GO not the 6800 GTO or the 6800 GO ultra .. he has a laptop not a desktop. i think its 12pipes

Actually, this is precicely what nVidia has been doing best these days. For example, the NV43 core... Right now they don't care much about going up, so they are finding new ways to go down and still sell stuff. Considering how high costs of even a 6800NU still are, they can get away with this.

ATI mostly just locks stuff down and gives it a new name. Lol, they are more interested in taking baby steps up and selling to the rich people right now.
