hey people i am deciding to get a new graphic card but i dunno which one is going to better, so can you guys help me with my choice of graphic card, which one is better Giga-byte 6600GT or Giga-byte X700PRO 256mb?

I've had both an X700Pro and a 6600GT and the 6600GT was faster at everything except for maybe HL2. In which case the difference wasn't noticable to me.

My advice is go with the 6600GT.

One question first how much many can you spend and what bus are you running it on?
PCIe or AGP?

Hey thx for the reply i am going for a PCI-E bus, i can use around $300-$400 Aus. Yeah i realised that the 6600GT throgh benchmarks but i dunno about it running at higher resolution.

The 6600GT is undoubtedly the faster GPU. The problem is the long term benefits of 256MB on the X700 Pro. It's hard to say if not having 256MB is going to become a major problem or not in the short run.

If all the 6600GTs were 256MB, this wouldn't be an issue.

I had an X700 Pro till yesterday (when my X800XL came in) and it was a good card. Plenty fast enough for Source at 1280x1024 with everything on and some AA. Fine in KOTOR2 also.

I don't think the smaller amount of ram will be an issue for the next year or so. After that I am sure it might be.

Most games still don't bennifit much if at all from 256MB of ram.

Not really true unfortunately. If you run 1280x1024 or especially 1600x1200 AND you want to use AA, then you must have 256mb for the latest games or performace goes into the toilet.

Good examples of this would be EQ2, Doom3, and Source.

If you can live without any AA or very much AF at these resolutions, then you're ok at 128MB for a little while longer.

Yeah but i have checked out heaps of benchmarks, and most of these benchmark has concluded that the 6600GT beats the X700pro 256mb, and the GT perform exceptional in DOOM3.

One question, why no1 asks for x700XT? I think x700XT is very much equal to 6600GT, eh?

Tho I newer saw it in stores Oo

I think the price point for the x700xt got too near the x800xl which would destroy it, so it never really went to market. The x700 pro 256 runs $220 or so (estimate). The x700xt would probably run $250. The x800xl is $299 or cheaper. Why not spend the extra $50 and get a card that will rock the x700xt?

yea i wanted to get the X700XT buy it is impossible to get it here so its either the X700pro 256mb or the 6600GT so help me make a decision.

well, its impossible to get it anywhere, and of course i'd recommend the x800xl at the price its got right now, but between these two the 6600GT hands down

if you were to get a X700..isnt that near the price of a 6800NU?..thoes cards are awesome compared to both of these cards...but in answer to your question..66GT hands down..i belive a 9800XT is about as fast as a X700...acourding to a friend of mine that had a 9800XT..

if ure going for the eyecandy the ati will prevail over nvidia as it always has when aa and af are jacked up, and i personally would want to have the extra ram so that surface textures wont be as compressed. personally i like ati and have an x800xt, a friend of mine has the x700 pro and he plays doom3 maxed out. i would go for the x7 but im sure either will do fine

The 6600 gt is the faster card over the x700.. IQ seems similar between the 2.. But, since you already going pci-e.. If you can come up with a little more $ go for an x800xl.. Much faster than either 6600gt or x700

Yeah i thought about getting the X800XL but just can't get the money together, and i am really desperate for this PC, I know that the 6600GT is fast and the X700PRO has 256mb ram, i am also wondering about the 6600GT turbo editon by giga-byte it is an overclock version of the 6600GT so should i get that instead?

Can you really tell the difference between the normal giga-byte 6600gt to the Giga-byte 6600GT Turbo edition in game play such as HL2 and Doom3?

can i get a link to this card?

This turbo edition.. Isn't that same as Asus's Extreme and Leadtek's Extreme editions? OC gpu with 1.6ns rams?

Yeah the Asus and leadtek Extreme is the same as the Turbo edition, they all have the same Core speed, its just that i dunno which manufacturer to go with.

The RAM will probably yield a better overclock with 1.6ns, but the core would be the same just with the overclock put right in the bios.

that card sounds great....but any links on it..i cant find it...( im not a manufacture website person, like reviews)

Hey guys you got any idea on the X700Pro 256mb? if you do tell me the goods and bads for this card same goes for the GT please?

the basis of video....is speed..and thats what the X700 dosnt have compaired to a 6600GT..( or hell even a turbo 66GT).....the bottom line..the 6600GT owns the X700

Yeah i know that , but in high resolution the X700pro came out on top, this two card are closely matched.
