I'm looking for a cheap replacement for my 9800pro that died... what kind of overclocking can I expect from 6600s? Any brands that are especially good for it?

Ive got a XFX 6600GT 128mb and the stock speeds are 500/1000. I can get (with original heatsink/fan) roughly up to 560/1100 without any artifacts, past that and it starts to fail. Its still not quite as fast as my x800pro (also overclocked), but its a really nice card.

My XFX 6600GT overclocks like mad ...i can clock it stable up to 575/1250 without any artifacts ... its cool card, im realy proud of it ;)
Also i have friend who has Gigabyte 6600 128 and he says its quite good too

Get a card with a good cooler, or get an NV silencer and you might hit 600/1300. I can hit 570/1300 on my MSI with the old first generation crap cooler.

I'd get a 6800GS for 200$.

AGP? 6600GT is about the same as a 9800XT. If you shop around, you might be able to get a 6800 vanilla for about $150. Oops...looks like you already bought a card :). It should be fine. I had my 6600GT up to 550/1.1Ghz.

Yeah I did already buy it.. about how much do those NV silencers run?

This was really about as much as I could afford to spend.. Like I said I hadn't been saving for this, but my radeon died.. So all in all I think this was still a good purchase.. in the end, it's better than my old 9800pro, and it's certainly better than the Geforce 5200 with the buzzing fan, that I put in so I can at least use my computer till the 6600gt comes.

Anyhoo.. I'll check out the silencer and see what I can do with overclocking.

Holy crap... My 9800pro died a few weeks ago, and I just ordered a 6600gt to replace it. For the time being I have a 5200 in the computer. Same thing I said.

heh, Imagine that.. What brand was your Radeon? mine was a powercolor. I just ran 3dmark, just for kicks.. got a whopping 1029!! hahahaha. Can't wait till the 6600gt gets here, so I can own that score a few times over..

I got a Gigabyte 6600GT PCI-E turbo Force edition i manage to get it clocked at 600/1260 i am pretty sure i can go much further with a better cooler then the one i got which is only passive cooled.

Wow...very nice OC with passive cooler. I had a turbo force 6600 vanilla and it OC'd very well too (not that well though ;) ).

I'd suggest the vf700-cu rather than the silencer; I've had both for my 6800gt and much prefer the zalman.
