I'm looking to get a video card, I'm running an FX5900 w/128 now, and was wondering about how much difference there is between the FX6600 w/256MB of RAM and the FX6800 w/128MB of RAM.
I don't want to spend too much cash on it because I plan to build a new system right after the new year, but this system will still be used.

Thanks

The 6800 is far superior. The amount of memory is no indication for how powerful a graphics card is. a 256MB 6600 is a joke, because a 6600 doesnt have the rendering power to ever require that much memory. I doub't it can even make full use of 128MB... and it would hardly be better than what you have now.

The 6800, depsite less ram, is a much faster card. Go with that. There is also the posibility of unlocking the pipelines and vertex shaders.

I was leaning towards the 6800, and now it's definite.

7800 would be nice but I'm running AGP still, that'll be in the new system;)

6800 hands down

Though the pixel shaders might be corrupted, you have a great chance of unlocking the vertex shader succesfully.

Im very happy with the performance of my 6800.

4200 in 2K5 isnt bad at all ;).

Though the score would vary from system to system.

The 6800 is in almost very way imaginable superior to the 6600.

And their going for nothing these days.
