I am wondering if my Cooler Master 650 Extreme can handle a new upgrade. These will be the specs.

64x2 6000+
4gb DDR2 800
3 7200RPM Drives
1 Optical Drive
4 Fans
4870
Asus M2n32

Currently I am running the same setup with 2gb of ram and an x1950 pro.

What do you guys think?

No problem, Would be fine with a decent 450w psu.

I am running a setup which probably burns more power (with overclocks) + more fans, another optical drive on 480 watts (450w 12v), and I have yet to have my system just switch off because it was struggling for juice. I do however have problems with my computer booting up not having enough amperage when everything is cold, and every once in awhile the voltages going to my cpu and memory will be +.2 or .3v more than what I set it to, but those are more related to failings with the motherboard which the high initial load exacerbates.

You will be fine.

No. That's the Cooler Master Extreme Power series, correct? If so, that PSU is not capable of providing 650W of power cleanly and reliably. IIRC, that's actually a semi-decent Seventeem 450W PSU that's been way over-rated by Cooler Master. It will not last long under the kind of load you're thinking of subjecting it to. So I recommend replacing the PSU. These PSUs are good choices:
Antec Earthwatts 650W PSU - $65 (45A on the +12V rail)
Corsair 650TX 650W PSU - $92 (52A on the +12V rail)

Thanks for the post Danny. I did some deeper looking (although my expertise is not i psus) and I found this.

According to this review, it is middle of the road. My budget does not really allow a psu into it, so I think I am going to try it with the old psu and If it runs with problems I will buy a new one.

Some time when a PSU goes out it may take some other components with it. It is really up to you. However, here is a great deal you may like to look into:

Who cares if it doesn't hit 650 watts? He only needs about 450 anyways.

@OP, you should be good to go.

everyone is agreed that 650 is more then enough, but you should have gone with EA650, basically Danny Bui's suggestion.

May i ask why you're using Cooler Master extreme.

the 12v rail rating and design is more important than advertised wattage. My gtx 280 runs on a corsair vx450 psu with no problems. Corsair psu's are awesome, quality first.

Sorry for the late reply. I had an involuntary 1 day vacation from the forum...

I bought the PSU for my first ever build last year. I got it for a great price from what I remember. If I ever buy again, I will definitely go corsair though =D
