6200's worth it?

A 6200 for $125?! :eek:
The 256MB of memory will not matter on such a restricted core, I would go with the Chaintech 6600 128MB AGP at zipzoomfly instead. It is only $122 so you will get a faster card and save a couple of bucks.
 
my system will be a p4 2ghz on an abit IC7-G with a gig of crucial 3200... im dying to make the wisest decision
 
Not much of a gambling man, eh? Although it seems everyone and there brother has been able to unlock the extra pipes and OC the hell out of their 6200's.
 
I've gambled and lost with video card softmoding/unlocking :).

No 9800SE to 9800Pro
No unlocked pipes with 6800nu (did get the vertex unit though).

I'd still probably give it a try, although $125 for a 6200 that only runs stock is a lot of cash.
 
yeah, but at that price range there really isn't anything better. I think 6200 OC'ed beats out radeon 9800 plus you get all the geforce 6XXX features

Did you bench compare the two?

I think the only reason to get 6600GT's now vs the NON turbo cache 6200's is for SLI's purpose, so if you are running AGP or a single slot PCI-E, the 6200's seems like an awesome deal if unlock and overclocked...
 
Nvidia probably has a plan to phase out the 6200's and replace them with nothing to unlock or just bring in crappy turbocache like cards for AGP (just put the memory onboard)

I bought the leadtek one because I hear leatek is a better brand, and plus chaintech might be sketchy. Could end up with a 64 bit...(even though it says 128, newegg sometimes lists wrong). Newegg lists 128 bit but if you look at the box pic it says 64 bit. thats why i figured its $20 less. (chaintech has a 64 bit 6600 for 120 and a 128 bit for 140....) AGP by the way
 
I'm using a Gigabyte 6200 PCI-E now. It's very nice for $100, nothing in its price range can compete with it. I have mine overclocked to 560/650 from the stock 300/500, running 8 pipes. It scored around 8000 in 03 with a 2.5 GHz winchester. In a thread over at XS, 6200s seem to be overclocking better than the plain 6600s.
