Okay I wanna raise the standard clocks to stock 5870 clocks...no more no less. Can I do it in CCC (9.12) without any other app like for the volts....or do I need to up the volts aswell.

Also when overclocking the 5970 in CCC do I need to adjust the speed for both GPUs or just the one.

Thanx

You wont see 5870 clocks without a Vcore increase, no reviewer got clocks that high with stock overclocking, but beating those clocks with a Vcore increase is no problem, there is quite a few apps you can use, MSI's afterburner is my fave since it allows a range of voltages and not just 1-2 presets like most of them do.

Someone here was able to get 850/1200 on stock volts but that is the exception not the norm, most will have to increase vcore. Like PrincessFrosty said use MSI Afterburner for overclocking it.

I've managed to get 850/1200 stable @ 1.137 core voltage so you may not have to up it all the way to 1.162 just for 5870 clocks.

Have you tried doing it before asking?

Great way to finish your post by the way.

WTF!

no I dont go messing with volts for the sake of it...now if the question related to changing the desktop res. I would have a go at that.....

And the green face was relating to me not anyone else....way to go for posting nothing about nothing....HERO!

I have the sapphire overvolt app that came with the card....I read that it only allows you to up the volts to a safe amount with the tool....maximum of 1.1625v on the "Engine Volts" and 1.15v on the "Memory".....
I will try the volts suggested above....thanx again.

;)

I had 5x 5970 OEM from ATI and just the last one i got 2 weeks ago can run 850/1200 stock Rock solid, but they all can reach easy 850/1200 with modest increase in Vcore.
Start with 1.12 and go up.

Remember the real 5870 runs at 1.1625v to run at default speeds, that's much more Vcore then default speed of 1.049v on 5970.
So the actual GPU's in 5970 are cherry picked to run at lower volts.

Thanx for the advice guys. I have it running at stock 5780 speeds for a sold 2 hrs playing dirt2 at only locded up once. But I only touched the volts up a mere one notch each. I will put it up another little notch and hopefully it will be rock stable.

Cheers.

BTW.....The Open GL setting in the CCC do I enable that to Triple Buffer or leave unchecked?

On a seperate note guys.....

Do you have to keep re-applying the voltages to the card upon every startup....its seems as soon as you restart the volts go back to default with the REDLINE software. Is there a way to save the settings?

Use MSIs afterburner if you want to save settings after a reboot, Im pretty sure a lot of the apps simply wont save them.

Yeah everyone is using that APP. But its no big deal upping the vlts everytime you log on...but it would be nice to have them set.

Man, you're gonna get a lot of help with that attitude.

FTR,

I aint got an attitude, I was asking a simple question and you always get people coz they know more then you being arrogant...the question could have been answered two times over with the reply given.

Anywho! It was a case of bad communication more then anything else.

You need to adjust the speed for both the GPUs. Otherwise your performance increase will not be as much as you'd expect and you might even experience microstutter because your gpus are running out of sync.

It's been said that the 5970s get the best binned chips, so I would think it would run at 5870 speeds with a moderate voltage increase.

So with the REDLINE volts app I got the max volts is 1.16 for both the memory and the gpu clock...I take it it totally fine to run at these volts if needed as they are default settings with the tool.

I have it running fine but after about 3/4 hrs of hardcore sessions it locks up....so I am thining just a little bit more volts....I am not giving it the max yet
