i done a few hours of research with no results.......

i have a quad fire system that is running 2 5970's with a 980x running at 4.5. everything is watercooled between the IOH, ICH, CPU, videocards. im getting some serious fluxuation in framerates in 3dmark vantage. my temps are very cool and im not experiencing crashing. im running the 10.7 drivers. anything im missing here guys? anything i can run or test to get these frame rates to stay consistent? please let me know of any ideas, thanks guys
 
I hate to break it to you but two 5970s is just too high end for ATIs drivers, in fact in my experience one 5970 is too high end.

After owning an XFX 5870, a Sapphire 5970 and now two Sapphire 5870 Toxic 2GB cards, I can tell you I only use one Toxic 5870 and that has been the best gaming experience for me.

Crossfire and Quadfire are very over rated and the micro stutter issue gets worse with each additional GPU.

If you want the best single card experience stick with one 5870 and if you want the best multi gpu surround experience than pick up two GTX 480s.
 
I would agree, single card solution ATI is not bad. If you going to go with 2, I would not go Ati but Nvidia only way.
 
in the first scene of vantage im getting fluctuation between 55 fps and 130fps..... i actually just built a system with this exact configuration without this issue. i understand that multi gpu scaling between SLI cards is totally the way to go, crossfire has alot of catching up to do. unfortunately i dont have a choice in this matter to switch to SLI otherwise i wouldnt be posting. just curious if anyone has any similar issues with a setup like this and has found a work around or solution.
 
Download Driver 10.4

With these drivers, I had 5970+5870 in Tri-Fire with no issues. Everyone's PC is configured differently though.

keep the idea's coming.... ill have these idea's tryed out in the morning for you guys, other than that, its trial and error from here....
 
I'll have another HD5870 by the end of the week (hopefully), so I'll try my hand in helping you figure out any Vantage issues.
 
I have a similar system minus water cooling at 4GH. With two 5970's in crossfirex I never could tell the difference between one or two besides the great amount of heat that the crossfirex mode put out. I've since removed one and am just as happy with performance.
I did not at the time see a need to wait for nvidia but as it turns out their better drivers have proven once again that amd just can't pull it off.
