Pretty cool that they brought back PhysX for 50-series owners. Here are the games that affects:
  • Alice: Madness Returns
  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
  • Batman: Arkham City
  • Batman: Arkham Origins
  • Borderlands 2
  • Mafia II
  • Metro 2033
  • Metro: Last Light
  • Mirror’s Edge
That's most (maybe even all) of the ones people really cared about. I'm still on a 40-series card, but this is good news for future purposes. I still occasionally go back to those Batman titles.

I'm now enjoying Assassin's Creed: Black Flag on my 5090! Wooo! It's too bad that it's locked to 60 FPS, but other than that it's working fine with PhysX maxed out.

Very nice 👍

Also, Arkham Asylum is listed in small print as getting support in 2026.

Arkham City, Arkham Origins, and Mafia II also work great! WOOOOOO! I didn't see a Borderlands 2 benchmark, but it does allow PhysX High in the settings and seems to play just fine at very high FPS when uncapped. Checking the original Metros now (though I would usually play the Redux version) - edit they seem to run fine, other than the original Metro being resolution limited.

With all the BS going on with PC hardware right now, this is actually a ray of sunshine.

edit - also, the screen flickering at desktop seems to have finally been resolved for the 5090, and it only took Nvidia 10 months.

Metro 2033 was such a good game. Nice to see it get some love with newer gen cards

IDK why now but all my runs on my system are so low as of the last few drivers. Any ideas? I used to get in 14040's.

That app has been a dumpster fire since it came out why do you persist in flagellating yourself with it?
It must've been a recent update with the app. Prior to this I had zero issues with it (and have been using it for awhile). I own a lot of Razer peripherals and some need it unfortunately.

I spoke too soon - I'm getting Assassin's Creed Black Flag game crashes in Havana. Windows app crash log points to APEX_Particles_x86.dll and DDUing the driver / uninstalling PhysX and reinstalling doesn't fix it (tried the studio driver as well). Turning off PhysX seems to fix it - which is sad.

Opened a ticket with Ubisoft with the crash logs, but I kinda doubt anything is going to be done about it.

Over the years there has been a litany of game-breaking bugs.

One of the more interesting culprits for performance loss in 3DMark is core isolation. It's one of those things you might forget about when doing a new Windows install and it's not something you'd likely notice outside of benchmarks.

This driver causes Expedition 33 to crash about once every hour or so. I have a PNY 4070 TI Super.

I reinstalled 581.80 (the previous WHQL driver). And its back to rock solid again.

Hit or miss here... gaming seems fine, because I can't notice on a 5090 anyway. But in benchmarks, Speedway scores are about the same, but in Steel Nomad I am taking a 500 point hit for seemingly no reason... 🤷‍♂️

I've known about this for a long time, but it doesn't turn on automatically at all.
If you want strong performance, set your drivers to always force the GPU to 100% performance
It used to be on by default. I think MS may have started having it off by default, with 24H2. *you also have to have virtualization (Intel) or VBS (AMD) turned on in the BIOS, for the option to even be available in Windows. Virtualization is generally on by default, for recent Intel. Not sure about AM5.

That's right, I mostly turn off virtualization because I don't use it. It's best to check via hwinfo, that option is called HVCI.
If you want performance, just go to manage 3d settings and set power management mode to prefer maximum performance (it's in nvidia drivers)

I haven't done a clean Windows 11 install in about 18 months, but core isolation used to be on by default...although I probably did have that enabled in my BIOS (AM5). Might be an automatic thing based upon that toggle, kinda like Armory Crate.
The only reason I even noticed a performance difference is because people with the same hardware were pulling 3DMark scores that were quite a bit higher than me. In some cases, slightly lesser gear. I couldn't find the culprit and was starting to get mad when I stumbled upon a Reddit thread that mentioned it. I turned it off and suddenly my score jumped up like 1200 points.

Thats a good setting. But, unrelated. And will not otherwise mitigate the performance overhead of Core Isolation.
