What is the 5850 supposed to be equal too on Nvidia's side?

gtx 285 I think, but keep in mind it is possible the performance will get better as the drivers mature

True, and as game developers start making their games more compatible with ATI cards (it shifts back and forth, as new cards from each camp trump each other), it will get faster, too.

The GTX285 will still outpace the 5850 is quite a few games, at the moment.

Wait for the NDA to be lifted for 'official' benches, but the leaked ones I've seen indicated that the 5850 regularly beats the GTX 285.

Interesting, how did the results from this same site with the HD5870 compare to official non-leaked benchmarks? Results looked inline with everywhere else?

I say the 5850 is superior to the 285 for the fact that its DX11 compatible and a 44nm die cut, its also more energy efficient.

Looking forward to the results. Hopefully we'll have a solid driver release in the near future.

None, Nvidia dont have dx11 cards.
Cant compare really as fps isnt the only option or feature to consider.
I be getting a 5850 and overclocking it as it shows promise to even reach 1ghz core.

In older games, its faster than nvidias 285 by a wide amount, and even more if overclocking.
If you go newer dx11 patched games as currently Battleforge, the difference with dx11 increase even more as it adds up to 38% average increased fps.

Dam those are nice results. If Ati could sell this card for say $259-279 they would have a huge winner I think...

Judging from the HD5850 specs its ~85% of the HD5870 performance and should be faster than the GTX285.

1440 SP vs 1600 SP (90%)
725 mhz vs 850 mhz (85%)
4000 mhz vs 4800 mhz memory (83.3%)

At $259 MSRP it looks to be the real winner of the HD5*** series.
