Is it just me or is the supply and variation of selection of 580s starting to thin out. Is there something else on the horizon beyond the 590 that Nvidia has planned?

I'm hoping this is why.....I don't know what that'll mean for the 590 then...same card except two gpu's?

Doesn't make much sense...now a 6gb-590 would ruffle my feathers. :)

Nvidia will EOL the GTX 580 and GTX 570 and launch a 3gb GTX 580 and 2.5GB GTX 570 with hgher clocked GPU and shader called...

GTX 580 Ti MSRP $499.99

&

GTX 570 Ti MSRP $349.99

The Forum Famous Crystal ball has spoken!! :D

I tweeted Jacob Freeman with, "Any chance of a 570 with 2.5GBs?" and he twooted back with, "Not at this time." Dude's quick on the uptake.

Doesn't look good for Nvidia rethinking their stance on the 570. On the other hand, the 580 needs more VRAM to utilize all it's grunt at the resolutions it's intended for. Hard to argue. Could be that Palit was the test case and now Nvidia and the mainstream board partners are finally jumping the bandwagon. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Nvidia EOL the 580 1.5GB.

I dunno. I suppose I could see grabbing one in early April, then pulling the trigger on a second for SLI when Kepler makes an appearance and prices drop, assuming availability plays nice.

Would a 570 2.5GB impact sales of a 580 3GB? Maybe. But more likely, adding a 570 2.5GB would shut the door on the 6950/70 2GB being the no-brainer multi-card/high res choice in that price bracket. At least then there'd be some real competition.

To the OPs point though, the 580's stock out there are low and have been low. I wonder if stock is not being replenished? I know haven't heard squat from anywhere that there is a planned refresh/replacement so wtf?

That's one way to get you to buy the 590, lack of options.

I too would like to think the 580 1.5GB is disappearing because stock will eventually be replenished with a 3GB variant (the new EVGA in early April, for instance).

Probably not ... but I'd like to think it.

Either way...I guess it's a good time to be in the market for a card update. I'm anxious to see what my options will be here soon.

I need some high end cards. I love how ever release is disappointing followed by "wait a few more weeks for the release of X"... I would welcome 3GB 580s though.

Can't think that way dude....you'll always be miserable and waiting for that "best" item...this is my hobby and I love guessing what's coming next and how I want to tweek my current build. Do what your budget can do and wait a couple years and do it again :D

Gotta say I agree. I'm sporting a twitchy 285 that's nearing retirement. I could ride it out and wait for Q4 Kepler (assuming Nvidia sticks to the road map), hoping for earth shattering 6-series performance or significant 5-series price drops, but I'm more inclined upgrade. I'm not a fan of incremental upgrades, I tend to buy big when my current hardware starts to struggle. Whatever I end up with will likely last me 2-3 years. Maybe I'll get excited about Maxwell in 2013. :D

That said, people rocking 4-series parts, it might make sense for them to wait. Depends on your circumstances.

Yeah. I understand what you guys are saying to a degree, but I'm already totally dissatisfied with anything on offer right now, and I'd hate to settle for something that I'd already be unhappy with from day one.

Absolutely. If nothing flips your switch, the best thing to do is wait.
