What is this guy?

Worth 384 points. Dropped my 8800GS down to 3800ppd.

Yeah I just got one as well, after not being able to get work for about 15-20 min. Doesn't seem to have affected ppd on my gtx260 still at 7.5k+ ppd.

I just saw this thread on the folding@home forums: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=7131

"We are releasing some exciting new projects for the NVidia GPU clients. These are full production runs of larger proteins that should really test the limits of fast folding simulations.

Projects 5749-5756:
ACBP, a helix-bundle protein with 1392 atoms, being served from vsp07v.
See for details: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/fahproject?p=5749

Projects 5757-5764:
Protein L, a mixed alpha/beta protein with 973 atoms, being served from vspg4v2
See for details: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/fahproject?p=5757

Looks good from a science perspective, but our points will fall. Temps will probably go up too, so watch the overclocks.

Watch out for 5749 !!
Lots more heat. Had to turn up fans and downclock video memory.
+6C on GTX 260's
Sucker rebooted my computer.

I've gotten a few scattered 57__. the PPD is similar to the 5748s that were out over the past couple of weeks, but honestly, I haven't seen a huge heat increase on my end.

I noticed a similar bump in temps when I started crunching one. I have no clue about the PPD as I don't have anything installed at the moment to monitor it. I figured it was an actual work unit rather than a test work unit like we have been getting since the nVidia GPU client came out. The project number and especially the increase in temps gave it away.

Once these type of work units become mainstream, it looks like the difference between ATI and nVidia cards will be rather small.

Here I am going out of town, and a new WU is loose.

No good can come of this. :(

I love the 5757-5764 units for my GTX 260 core 216. It picked close to 500 more ppd compared to 5506  However, I'm afraid of the 5749-5756 and the effect on ppd. Zero impact on temps for me but I watercool 2 of my GPU :D

For other cards, it's a 500 ppd drop only so it's not bad.

Your GTX 260-216 actually does better with these WUs?

Aren't these the Lambda units everyone is referring to in this thread? They have been released intermittently for a while now. I've been getting them in small quantities every other day.

My 260-216 on a 5762 was doing close 8k ppd with the 5755 it's on now its down to 6k ppd

Yup, lambda ones. However, my result is with the 973 atoms one. I predict that with the bigger ones, it will take a dip for sure since it's above the capabilities of the card. I think it has to do with fitting all the atoms in the shaders and if you fail, it take a dip.

Look at tkam's post above to confirm my predictions.

I picked up a 5759 today. Hammered one of my 9600GSOs down to 1789ppd.

Time to look for a couple of 4850s for my 3 remaining PCI-E 16 slots before I have to start looking at building new boxes. But those are hard to hide from SWMBO.

QFT

I feel the same. Too bad I can't get to LogMeIn to work without locking my computer up. I would like to see what is going on back home.

You betcha' (It must be "mooseburger" withdrawals) I picked up 2x 5762's this fine mornin', one on each of the boxen I have 24/7 GPU2ing at the moment (must be a overstock push goin' on at Stanford U :p) . I have a eVGA 8800GS burning a hole in the shelf I store it on :( On my 9600GSO Q6600 boxen (stock city), shader OC'ed to 1600 and a manual fan set of 80% I get about 3317 PpD. On my 8800GT Q6600 boxen (also stock city), shader OC'ed to 1806, fan manually set to 100% (my damn 8800GT runs hot, time for 3rd party cooling ) I get about 4644 :)

Not being a mathamatical genius and calculating in my head only I figure I lost about 500 or more PpD on each card, more on the eVGA 9600GSO :( (the PpD readings are read by FAHmon v2.3.4.) ;)

Edit: I just checked my boxen and I have a 5758 WU on my PNY 8800GT 512. I went from getting about 4644 PpD to a freakin' 5758 WU getting about 4308 PpD. The core temp was also about 10c or so degrees higher so I downclocked the shaders to 1700 from 1800 in a vain attempt to get my "hot blooded" GT to cool off some :( . (so far the core temp only went down 1c to 2c, these are some crappo WU's in my opinion (384 pernts for almost 10c degrees more core temp ). Yeah, yeah, I know, it was expected, lets hear it for the science )

Folding and WCGing for the CURE

got a few 5751's and its the same story here.. dropped my 9600GSO from about 5Kppd to 2.5Kppd and temps are up a bit too, by about 5 degrees C

I haven't really checked the effect on PPD for my 8800GT, although I can say for certain that it raised my temps. I had the fan set at 45% and would rarely see it break 65, 66C. I checked this morning and it was sitting at 71C.

these have hit me today on my 9800 gx2's. Seen a 1k ppd drop at stock speeds. Temps look good though maybe i'll boost the clocks.

I've gotten a few on my 9800GX2s as well. A 1k drop is not anywhere near as bad it could have been. I'll thank the folding gods for what I can get.

just about finished with 1 5757 @ 5002 PPD w/ overclocked 8800GT at 44C

*update*
5506 @ 5554 PPD @ 41C

*update 2*
just got the nasty 5752 @ 3854 PPD @ 46C

my overclock is 790/1875/1010

Heh, predicting a drop in points, who would have guessed..:p;)
