Anyone else get these yet. Worth 511 points. About 7 hrs per with the 9600GSO

Yeah, I tested them and it's one of the lambda ones with the ppd drop. However, it's not too bad so no choice crunching them since they put lots of hope on them.

hey what ever finds the cure.. 7 hours 2 hours 10 hours.. shoot i avg 14-17 hours per project on WCG.. so im not complaining.. :p

All of my 280s got them and FahMon showed a PPD drop of 2100 points per.
They caused my system to reboot and I had to lower the shaders.

have one right now. looking at a 2000ppd drop with them. but that doesn't bother me so long as they go towards finding a cure.

FOLD ON!

Cards are running hotter. If you haven't gotten one yet, expect to lower your overclcocks if you're running on the edge.

Good, I'll run the furnace that much less :p

Update: on of my 9800GX2 cores picked one up went from 5200 ppd to 3900 ppd not too bad
/crosses fingers

hopefully this only has to do with the newer fah cores.. lol since im running well beyond the ragged edge on my 8800GT right now.. guess i better get ready for a hard lock sooner or later..

Thankfully the old units are still being downloaded along with the new 5748s.
Just one 5768 showed around 40 more watts on my APC then the old units.

ugh 40 more watts? darn im already running over 400w on a 550HX corsair psu.. :(

That's from the wall, so it won't be as much an actual increase of power useage.

I am wondering if I should get out in front of this thing and go ahead and clock down one on my shaders. Scan for artifacts showed me a little something, so I know I am not rock stable here. I haven't had any problems with the GPU yet though. I might just wait and see.

i quit trusting artifact programs.. everyone one of them shows me artifacting at 760/1850/1000 yet i can play any game butter smooth for hours with no issues.. and i can fold at even higher clocks then that..

Just noticed that my 9000ppd + in Fahmon was down to 5665ppd, and sure enough, it's a 5748 cranking at 2750ppd on a 9600gso, down from 4800ppd. Oddly enough, my other 9600gso has a 5603, and it's getting less than 3000ppd too... Seems like there's a whole variety of new lower ppd work units. Must have something to do with that new FahCore_13.exe that just downloaded before the current WUs, too!

Hell, at least my 2 9600s with new WUs are giving me more ppd than the 1 9600 I was running last month on the practice WUs! Time for more tamales... Always time for more beer!

(Couldn't let THIS be the one thread that didn't turn into a 50 post discussion about beer and tamales, now, could I?) :D

Thank you, that was gross negligence on all our parts.

Beer please.

Edit: 8800GS down to 2800ppd.

Well, I think most of us knew this would be coming eventually. As long as the new units don't make everything go EUE really hard I think it is fine. A loss of PPD is worth it in the face of higher level science being done.

AMIRIGHT?

I agree. Tons of points for units that are "designed to test the scientific value of the nVidia GPU2 core" is necessary, but not really getting us anywhere scientifically speaking.

And lets break out some cold ones. :D

I don't think it's the core, these seem to be much larger proteins. The small ones that Nvidia cards were running had what, 576 atoms? The larger ATI proteins are 1254 or 1392. That is a huge jump.

I just noticed getting one of these and I lost about 2k PPD on my 8800GT. I expected a loss in PPD for a while now so this really isn't a surprise. The increased load on the GPU was something I really wasn't expecting. The GPU is running about 4-8C hotter than it was before. Luckily, I started getting this work unit as the temperature here has dropped into the 50's F for highs. I don't feel like turning on the heat as of yet as I have been enjoying the $65/month electric bills as I haven't had to run the a/c or heat in more than three months.

^^ good to know
prolly i need to start saving $ for ATI cards

I get my HIS 4850 ICEQ's off Ebay.

$186.00 - 25% Live CashBack = $140.00
Right now they have a $30.00 Rebate = $110.00

*Edit* - Looks like they went up to $199 base again but they will go back down.

Indeed these are painful....3500PPD from 5500PPD on my 8800GT. That being said, oh well. If everyone gets them consistently, it's no big change in the user race, and in the end....WUs are WUs

Ahh crap, been lucky until just now. I got stuck with my first 5748. It hasn't been going long enough to get an estimate, but we already know it's going to be slow. Oh well, I knew it was coming. My card is currently at almost 80C. These are some HOT mothers.

Edit:
Correction, now all but 1 of my GPU clients has these units. Oh well, we enjoyed the quick ones while they lasted! On to bigger and better things!

True, but those running a higher percentage of nVidia clients over all other types of clients in their farms will see the biggest hit. That's most of the top members of the top teams currently.

Lucky for me, I had a spare couple cores that I had been lazy in getting an SMP client running on, so I can mostly offset the GPU drop with the SMP client I just put on, so no harm no foul :p

My ati 4850 usually gets around 3300ppd but just got a work unit 5651 and is now only getting around 2550ppd. Haven't seen it before.

i still havent gotten any yet.. using 1.15 core.. been doing 5506 and 5014's and a couple 5015's here and there all night/morning long..

im using the 1.15 core and i just got a weird WU i diddnt catch the project number, but FAHspy diddnt tell me how much it was worth or anything, it looked like i had no work unit, but it was still working...it said credit-(blank) lol anyone ever see something similar to this?

You just need to update the project database. Theres a button along the top to do so. It'll do that with a new WU that it doesn't know anything about.

my 4850 overclocked to 800/2200 pushes out 2600-2650 PPD on the 5734 projects
normally pulls 3300-3400 on the other one.

around 74c with ac5 on the stock single slot cooler.

I've not seen one yet, but I'll keep in mind the OCs.

Color me confused. I thought the newer work units were supposed to give the ATI guys a boost and cut down on the Nvidia ppd. It seems like the production hit is for both though. Very interesting.

Pretty much the same as everyone else. WU 5748 dropped about 2000 Ppd and temp up about 3 degrees C on EVGA 8800GS. No other problems. G
