570 sli or 590

hi all

im in the middle of upgrading my pc for 3 monitor surround, i have some questions for all the brainy people on here.

1, will 2x gtx 570 2.5gb run quicker than a gtx 590 (every were i look they seem to be sold out)
2, if they will would my 1000w power supply be good enough(my spec at the bottom)
3, these are the gpu's ive been looking at here here
one is "ultra charged" the other is stock but £100 difference do you guys think its worth it?

I am more than sure a 1000w PSU will handle that setup fine. People seem to think that new GPUs consume 400+ watts each, when it is simply not true. I've seen the numbers: get a 2600k (oc'd respectably), a GTX 580, and a couple high-RPM HDDs and the system will pull <400watts under load. Throw in another card and you are looking at ~600w MAX. 1000w+ PSUs are only realistically required for tri/quad Sli/Xfire or systems running a LOT of mechanical drives.

To answer your question, 2x 570s should be about the same speed, if not faster than a 590, especially if they are using a 2.5gb framebuffer.

Looking at your example cards: both use the same cooler, from the looks of it. So you may as well get the default clocked one and save the cash. You can always overclock if you want to get that extra boost.

2 570's blow the 590 out of the water especially overclocked, will pump out allot of heat/noise though.Also point of view is a crap brand go for MSI/ASUS/Gigabyte/EVGA.

What brand / model is the power supply. Not all 1000W power supplies are created equal.

the 590 and a 570 sli are about equal in terms of performance on stock clocks and reference cards, and about equal in terms of price.

However, the 570's have more room for overclocking than the 590, and can easily pull ahead. Combine this with getting the 2.5gb non reference 570's and you will have a faster setup that is better at high resolutions with lots of anti aliasing (1920x1200+)

A final consideration to make is that the 570's only support tri sli, and you can attain quad sli with dual 590's, which will definitely be faster than 3 overclocked 570's. However, you must remember that tri sli 570's comes to about ~$1000, and quad sli (2x) 590's comes to about ~$1300. It just depends on how far you want to take it in the future, and what resolution you are running.

i would go with 570s. 590 are rather rare and the vram heat issue isnt reassuring.

@thesecond at the mo 1920 x 1080 (gtx 295) will go higher with new gpu's
@Adzsask is gainward any good i know what you mean about the pov thing, last time i saw pov i was on porn hub
just found out i could have 2x 580 (gainward good) for £20 more than the o/c 570's

if it was your rig what would you go for
2x570 2.5 gb stock (£600)
2x570 2.5 gb o/c (£700)
2x580 1536mb stock (£720)
1x590 stock (£630)

The single GTX 590 is really like a heater and hard to manage. However, GTX570 SLI would be more demanding for power supply. But they have better performance.

I love my SLI 570's Heat has not been a issue or the 950 pwr supply I use. Gets mighty hot here in the south USA.

I would rather spend the extra money and buy the GTX 580's cause they would kill a 590. If it was me though I would buy two 6970's. My 6970's run my three Dell 2560x1600 monitors like nothing. Also it would save you quite a lot of money compared to Nvidia =P

For triple monitor I would definitely get the 2.5 GB GTX 570s if you can find them. Otherwise, for similar cost, probably HD 6950/6970 2 GB versions. If you want to go all-out you could do GTX 580 SLI with the 3 GB versions.

this, alot of people believe that they can cheat with $75 dollar 800W-1000W power supplies.

and then on top of that they blame amd/nvidia when their video cards dont work.

i would go with gtx 570's all day!
they will perfom wayy better than a single gtx 590.
also the 2.5gb version will be better for high resolutions.
