with a passive adaptor (since DP can go into DP++ mode - pin compatible with HDMI, including the audio pins), audio works.


Also, the correct adaptor can convert the DVI into an audio carrying HDMI port :).

it's digital, you won't lost quality.

similar to what Dell ships with their alienware laptops. Probably can find a cheaper on on fleabay, though.

As for the DVI--> HDMI, ask sapphire for help on that one. They typically use some wierd arrancgement of the unutilized ground pins on the DVI to pass through audio.

Damn! I thought I was getting a deal on that 5570, it was $70 with a $20 promo and $15 MIR, but I probably shoulda just payed $57 for the 5550 on e-bay...

Shrugs. 5570 is still faster than the 5550 isn't it? You get what you pay for.

not to boast too much, but my HD5550 was 30usd after a 30usd MIR (ASUS) :D And I picked it up at the local Frys :p

It's going to work. DP++ is pin compatible with HDMI, it just needs an adaptor to let the pins line up.

DP++ changes the voltages and signalling of some DP pins to make it work in HDMI mode.

Audio will work. AMD drivers installed an "AMD DP Output" as a sound device for my HD5870, too.

Don't worry, your not boasting much at all. This 5570 is only $35 and with a much smaller MIR... So lower up front cost and $5 more total for a better card... plus Fry's is famous for having unmatched deals

haha, you definitely got a great deal, the better deal I think, because the performance difference between 5550 and 5570 seems almost nonexistent from what I can tell... but my deal was pretty good to :D
 
I am really having a hard time placing my order for an adapter, because I'm not 100% sure what will work and what won't.

This doesn't say DP++, and there are mixed reviews stating the audio worked and didn't work.

Then, I know ATI made special adapters for the 2 series up to pass audio through DVI, but I know different adapters were made for different series, and I can't figure out which is the right one.

This one seems to work great for everyone, but it doesn't specify 55 series, and I'm not sure the 5570 was made to pass audio through DVI like the older cards:
