55.2 dBA is really loud

no shit those are loud, but I'll never put a vantec tornado on a computer I ever own again, I made the mistake of putting four in a pc a long time ago. never again.
 
I have yet to have anything come close to my Supermicro 1U. Hard to beat 8 x 65db fans (I think the 2 in the power supply might be quieter though). Even with a fan controller, that thing is going to be incredibly loud. They certainly do work well though.
 
My old Netapp filer arrays would probably top that, I'm not sure what the dB was but with the house quiet my door shut, I could hear them 25 feet away in the living room.

Each array had 3 120v powered blower fans about as big as a 50 pack of cd-rs.

I once had three arrays, but since some of the drives were firmware locked, i only used two of the arrays.

I don't have em now, sold em for money to buy a sata hdd :p
