would a 500w psu be enough for a:

intel core2quad
geforce 8800gtx
2x1gb ram
raptor harddrive
dvd drive
3x 12mm fans
??

I'm currently running this setup and i get memory errors ONLY when ran in dual channel.
Computer is stable with just one memory stick at a time.

the psu is a coolermaster igreen 500w

/discuss

You need more juice than that for a quad and a 8800GTX.

If I had to guess it runs fine until you put a load on it. Correct.

not exactly.. in dual channel mode i would get errors just by installing some games or apps.

when i run my computer with one stick of ram i have no problems whilst gaming and overclocking the cpu to 3.4 ghz

Is the OC stress tested. If not Run Orthos blend for a while and see what happens.

That looks like a decent PSU but I still think that its a little light for your system.

Have you tried both sticks of Ram by themselves. Different slots on the mobo.

Tried running memtest at stock speeds and OCed.

What mobo do you have and what ram do you have. Might just be an incompatibility or the Ram might be bad.

I highly doubt it's the PSU. Sounds like a RAM problem. Clock your ram lower and try again, see if it makes a difference.

it's not cpu related im running everything on stock speeds. it's either the memory or psu :|

what ram and board do you have? thats some missing critical info from this thread, lol. It sounds like a bios setting issue. what do you have the ram set to? and more importantly, again, what ram and board do you have?

i had a similar issue with a friend's build, and it was the motherboard's issue, not the ram or psu. your system should only require less than 450W (~30A on the +12V rail), on full load, which your psu should be able to handle.

I have a asus p5b deluxe board and OCZ pc6400 ddr2 rev2. I switched the board today from a gigabyte ds3 and the problem still exists. also im not a fucking noob so i know the ram settings. as you can see noone can come up with an proper answer it's just one of those freak occurances i guess even i dont know if its the mobo or the psu

It may not have been your intention but there's no reason to get snippy when people are trying to help you. I didn't see you mention doing it in your posts, but have you run memtest86+ through a few cycles on the ram?

(edit) in your first post you mention getting ram errors, so maybe you did run memtest in which case, I think your problem is solved

Wow, good luck getting advice or help from anyone here again.

Oh really meatcheezboy i guess my problem is solved? why did i start the topic in the first case then.

Just for your info i did memtest and i didnt get any errors.

Is this a new way of saying thanks to all who have tried to help?

I almost regret trying to help. Nothing worse than unthankful people.
Would it been to so hard to say I've already tried all that. Any other suggestions.

Also since your not a noob you should know that unless we are sitting in front of the machine the only thing that we know is what YOU TELL US.

Do you have any other RAM to test with. Start messing with combinations. Try different slots. Unhook any thing you don't need to lower the power needs. Hell if its only when installing things it could be the hard drive though I doubt that. Have you tried reinstalling windows I've had bad installs of windows make me think that hardware was going bad.

Oh and I know your not a noob. I'm just throwing out Idea's

Just for your info i did memtest and i didnt get any errors.

For how long? Sometimes errors don't show up for hours. To truly rule out the RAM as the problem, Memtest each stick of RAM separately for 24 hours

good suggestions but i tried them all except for the trying other ddr2 sticks which i dont have in posession.

just random applications/software i tried to install like world of warcraft and other stuff and crashes during games

A little more info about these programs will help. And again, how long did you run Memtest+? If you only ran it for a few hours, thats not enough time to find all or any errors at all.

Have you looked in the windows error log that might point you to a device that is causing the error.

you ARE a noob if you paired a 500watt psu with that equipment. that psu is going to be running damn near max no matter what load and its going to pop really soon, maybe taking your expensive hardware with it.

Shut the fuck up idiot. I just put in a 750w thermaltake toughpower and the problem still exists. That just leaves the memory then. Needless to say i will never buy a ocz product anymore.

... said the noob who can't get his ram to work properly, lol. We don't know the settings unless you tell us the brand/make/model. Now that you've told us the brand/make/model, you still neglected to mention the settings you've tried and the length of time you ran memtest. If you're not a noob, you would know that you have to tweak ram settings to get them to work properly. If you're not a noob, you'd know to try everything that was suggested in this thread before even posting, and you would have included all needed info in your original post. You ask for help, yet don't give enough info for people to help. Then when they try to help, you bitch about their efforts instead of helping them help you. Only noobs feel the need to state that they're not noob. Moreover, we don't give a fuck if you're noob or not. If we ask for info, its because we need it to help you.

If all you're looking for is confirmation of your own prognosis, then say so; but give all the info needed for others to reach the same conclusion. Don't make them ask by not providing the needed info, bitching about them asking, then still withold the info and expect them to concur. Its like asking a CPA to confirm your tax documents look correct without giving him your W-2 info.

shut the fuck up
