Even if the OP wanted to overclock, his $500 limit plus his desire for an SSD would limit his options.

While the i5-3570K normally costs between $210 and $230 (assuming you can't get the Micro Center in-store special), a good, overclocking Z77 motherboard costs upwards of $100 (with many of our favorites costing well over $150). Plus, DDR3 1600 RAM costs a bit more than DDR3 1333. And we can't forget the cost of a good third-party CPU cooler; the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus costs around $30.

In other words, the OP would have to choose between having an SSD or being able to overclock.
