I'd love to add more PPD, but I'm out of options here unless I got a money/hardware infusion. Or get to borg the new i7 930 system I built for my housemate
Frustrating is that I do have money in my account, but I don't want to use it because it's officially borrowed cash. Unless it's for my company or so, I don't buy anything with it.
Send your roomie out to dinner somewhere, overclock her 930, and borg the hell out of it
Just tell her that she can never turn her computer off, and to try not to use it for cpu intensive programs.
They rented blades to compete in a challenge? I thought these things were supposed to be about running what you brought. Renting blades would be the equivalent of someone with a Honda Civic signing up at the drag strip and then bringing a Corvette rental car.

Ever since EVGA came on board it's been all about deep pockets. They need to be moved into the default category.
I don't know what I think about evga's tactics. I don't like the fact that they're an unstoppable force, backed by corporate money, when the rest of us are a grassroots effort, funded by our own pockets.
However, at the end of the day it's all about the science.
Besides, in general, isn't it all about who has the deepest pockets anyway? A small team from a small website might look up at Team 33 and complain about how much money we're able to spend on our hardware, and how hardocp's website helps propel our team forward when other sites don't have the advantage of a large reader base to draw from.
Not to mention any of us could rent server time. I'm not sure how cost effective that would be, but I suppose it's something to think about.

I think the problem here is that these types of challenges like the CC are supposed to be about running what you brought. At least that is what I think we are talking about, as we are not competing in the CC this year.

Ohh..........maybe you can install the SMP client as a service then? It will simply boot up everytime she starts her computer, and WoW players have been known to stay online for days at a time.

WoW is quite CPU- and HDD-intensive. The second is not really a problem for SMP, but the first is. You probably will notice if there is a service taking up 99% CPU resource, even at lowest priority.

EVGA should be congratulated for bringing so many people into folding. The science they are helping to complete is outstanding. With that said they should be in a different team category since they are paying their members to fold. That's all I would like to see.

Unless of course, your roomate is also servicing you, but that's another topic for another day.
In my experience, especially with i7 and all its extra threads, game performance isn't negatively impacted by folding, especially with regular SMP units. Hell, I keep my bigadv running while I play games.
Here's the problem - they are the ONLY team that pays their members to fold, so there would be no competition for them in a different category. If there is no competition, then why pay members to fold? If they don't pay members to fold, their production goes way down. See the issue? Doing something like this only hurts the science. I'd much rather them pass us for a while...

So...you provide a service that is worth about $50-100, therefore you should be allowed to exact a virtual tithe from them for the rest of the machine's life in power consumption, heat, noise, and game performance? Yeah, right.
It is. Games stutter and pause, sound is really crappy and staticky, minimum framerates drop through the floor, and average frame rates halve.
nobody said anything about "the rest of the machine's life". Why would you assume this would be the case? If you ask me, giving good service to someone, and in return, asking them if their computer can be used in a scientific project to benefit humanity is extremely reasonable. Elledan mentioned “for all eternity”, indicating she has helped several times. How do you know that’s only worth $50-$100?
It sounds to me like your gaming pc has serious issues. Honestly.

And I heard a few more of their guys talking, it seems that they are EVGA servers, EVGA shutdown 8 blades and put them on 100% CC duty, thats what a few of their members have said, some of the OCN guys have a real problem with this
But, weve already had this conversation pretty much, and as much as it sucks, we can't do much about it and it is good for the science. (But yea, it does kill all the fun in it)

You could try setting CPU utilization at maybe 50-60% and see if she notices something else running. With a good overclock on that computer, I might just work
There is nothing wrong with being in second place as I won't mind. My only complaint is this whole blade thing for the CC. eVGA must really want to have the folding crown pretty bad, huh?

Yup, especially for the teams involved in the CC. This year has really turned into a one man show in F@H.
Seems that way and they're willing to stir up some controversy to succeed.

Good question. Who knows, maybe now that they've seen what their team is actually capable of, we might be seeing them pop in and out of our radar more often.
If this works anything like the business world, competition is good! It would make things so much more fun for us. That said, I still can't understand why i'm having so much fun watching my folding rig fold all day and night. It is even more fun that staring at an Excel spreadsheet all day.

arg well im going to be down for the next 4-5 hours as i test some stuff.. keep having stability issues.. running different clients and mixing them up to see if my gpu clients causing issues with the SMP client on certain WU's.. but the only common factor is that the systems BSOD'ing only when im away from the computer and i have my screen saver turned off so i need to figure out why it is crashing..
because OCN is spread to thin over multiple boinc projects that F@H falls between the cracks until the CC..

I was having problems with the usage % with the GPUs and getting some flaky ppd from them. During the troubleshooting I accidentally got a real nice OC (4.3) with the G-town and stable GPUs but it would bluescreen after a few hours, despite testing with OCCT and Prime95. Everything looks good now @ 4.2. SMP ran happily all day with the GPUs and now I'm back with running the dual (smirk) bigadvs. Last check had me at 38k ppd from those guys alone.
I just had to figure out how to get the system stable with the CPU and GPUs running @ 100% and it appears that a touch more vcore might have been the answer.
Next up is overclocking the 1055T
and that will finish my ramping up for now. It's time to sit back and watch for a while. But we all know how that goes...

Yes, recently I swapped some processors between two boards and they are performing slower than they did before the swap. I can't attain the same OCs. I will need to tune voltages and try a different mix of memory modules with these boards until I reach an optimal setup. So, I know exactly what you're going through.

My folding rig is 100% hands off as I don't even have an Antivirus program on it. I also disabled Windows Defender as it was doing some wierd things. I noticed that it seems to randomly start scanning your computer, even though I turned auto scan off.

well i think i fixed my problem.. required me to raise my voltage .005v just to make my system stable.. stupid m2n-sli deluxe board has some pathetic voltage regulations.. the vdroops is insane.. bios is set at 1.535v.. idle it sits at 1.56v and under full load it sits at 1.49v and bounces between 1.49 and 1.51v before i raised the voltage .005v it was dropping to 1.48v randomly and causing my system to bsod..
