I just got the logitech X-530 speakers. I connected each speaker up correctly to the sub. Then there's three plugs coming from one speaker, that need to connect to the computer (green, black, and orange/yellow). I know the green is for the front two, black is back two, and the yellow is the fifth one.

Well since I made my case out of wood, I can't access the ports on the far right of any cards. I will have to make some modifications to the case when I go back home. I just barely got the coaxial cable onto my tv tuner. Because of this, I could not connect the yellow plug into the sound card. The black and green plugs fit in fine.

I don't mind if the fifth speaker doesn't work for awhile. But I'd like the four others to work.

I'm using a very old sound card - Creative Live! 9000 I think. In the audio options, I went to 'Advanced Speaker settings', and changed the Speaker setup to '5.1 surround sound speakers". Only the front two worked. I also tried the 'Quadraphonic speakers' setup for 4 speakers, but it didn't do anything.

Do you think I need to have the yellow plug connected for more than two speakers to work? or is my sound card fucked
 
All the plugs have to be in for all the speakers to work.

Just fyi, the colors don't always match between the card & the plugs. They didn't on my audigy 2 zs, unless i've suddenly gone colorblind in the past two days. So, trial and error.
 
I only want four speakers to work, not five. Would I still need everything connected? And I'll check if the colors match
 
If it's a 5.1 system then you should have 6 total speakers, not 5.

What is your audio source? If you are playing a stereo source then of course you are only going to hear sound out of two speakers. If you want sound out of the rears then you will either need to play a source that has the appropriate rear tracks or mirror the front to the rears.

I have four speakers, and a sub. Only two of the speakers work. I'm not sure if the sub is working, but I'll check later.

I was testing it in Half Life 2. Only the front two speakers were working.

edit: I meant to say I have five speakers and a sub, and that the yellow plug isn't connected so I don't expect the fifth (center) speaker to work :)
 
You actually have 4.1 speakers if you have 4 speakers and a sub. What is the setting you are using for your speakers in windows? Did you set it to 4.1?
 
Is there a switch on one of the speakers to enable a 5.1 mode check the little speakers I have to do that on mine.
 
Theres no switching with these speakers, it sounds like he's missing the center speaker and that would explain why its not working right. You also need to go into your sound settings in the control panel and set your speaker setting to a 5.1 setup if you havent already done that.
 
this maybe a stupid suggestiong, but have you set the game to use 5.1? I know in HL2 that you have to pick how many speakers you have in your audio setup. Same thing for DVD programs..only reason I know is cuse I was so confused why my speakers (the ones in my sig) only seemed to be using 2.1, even after I set it for 5.1 in my control panel. Most programs (Invervideo WinDVD 6) have an audio setup that you have to pick 5.1 in. Hopefully this helps ya out a little
 
ahh I don't know why I said I have four speakers. Yeah I have five... one was hiding on my monitor. In my first two posts I said I have five.

No I have it. The yellow plug is not connected which is why I don't care about the center speaker working right now. I would just like the four to work. I changed the sound settings as I said before. I even tried the four speaker setup, but only two worked.

I haven't changed speaker settings in half life 2. I'll check it out later when people aren't trying to sleep.
 
Ok I just tried Half Life 2, and the audio settings were set to 5.1 already.

The plugs are connected in the correct ports. I tried plugging the black one into the green port, and when I did I heard sound from the two back speakers. I also plugged the yellow one into the green port, and could hear sound from the front speaker. I have not tested the sub yet.

So I guess either the sound card is fucked, or I need to have all three plugs connected for it to work.
 
I think I'm just going to buy another sound card. Newegg is selling a 5.1 card for $15. I wanted to test that one anyway since I can get 10 for like $8 each. And the yellow port on that one wouldn't be blocked by my case.
