48C Too hot for Conroe?

I have a conroe e6400 that idles at 48C (CoreTemp values), bios reads 53C at boot. Load is approximately 60C under full load ( coretemp).
I have an Asus p5b deluxe wifi edition motherboard. My ambient temp is 81F and I have an Antec P180: case temps are around 100F. My cooler is ZALMAN CNPS 9500 with arctic silver 5 paste. So is something wrong with these temps? Oh and I am not overclocking. Is this too hot?

Thats seems a tad warm for no overclock, Case temp about right tho, even good with that high an ambient, so case airflow seems OK. To much AS5 probally. you not going to kill it but I would try redoing the heatsink mount carefully folloing the instructions found on AS website.

Chip rated at max of 85C at center of heat spreader. and intels thermal guidelines say it should be around 60C at full load with no overclock.

i dont know diddly about air coolers other than zalmans are nice but built for quiet, maybe a faster/louder fan ?

Anyway perhaps someone else with that cooler will chime in.

I probably did the same thing. CPU is at 47C, MB is at 37C and case is at 75F

Mine is similar.
E6400
P5B-D
Scythe Ninja 1200rpm 120mm fan
P180b w/ 5 120mm case fans

2.13 Stock idle = 40c
2.13 Stock load = 55c

3.2 Oc idle = 46c
3.2 Oc load = 63c

(temps takin with Asus's Pc Probe II and w/ Core Temp)
vCore <1.35v

My mobo temps are at 30-32c so I know I'm getting good case flow.

I've tried 2 different bios w. no difference in temps.

I've reseated the heatsink. I took pics of when I took the heatsink off.. pic of cpu and pic of heatsink
These look fine right? I put a small dab of AS5 in the center of the heatspreader and mounted the heastink.

I closely examined the heatspreader before mounting it, and it seemed okay but not perfectly flat. The edges were slightly raised but the center was slightly raised as well. It had a slight dip between the edga and center.

P180B - side open for now
Scithe Ninja Plus
6300 running at 7*390 right now
temps are almost the same as when it was stock.

about 47 idle and 55-56 load

i just remounted the sink too with just a drop of AS 5 there..
didn't make a difference.

Edit P5B Deluxe

max, that seems like too much IMO. Sometimes after a test like that, I'll take off the remains off the heatsink and reseat it cuz u still have plenty on the cpu. The place you "should" be concerned with is the absolute center of the cpu. No need to cause uneccessary smothering around the core.

CoreTemp, which I believe to be WRONG, reads me as idling at around 40C, but my CNPS9500LED doesn't even noticably warm up. Wouldn't I notice SOME heat at 40C? I've got an E6600 with no overclock.

My e6400 with p5b (vanilla) stock runs at 36c. This is with a TT Big Typhoon with Silverstone fan attatched... 40c is probably fine for stock. Anything above that would make me raise a brow as to why it's so high.

When I first applied the Arctic Silver, I used too little. Too many people on the net said "don't use too much!" so I used a very very small amount, I reapplied again the same way with the same results. It was idling 50c. I redid it once more and put a big more thermal creameqe on it and it resulted in 36c. I am confident that I did not put the correct amount of AS on the first 2 times.

Anyone going above ~45c (give or take) with no overclock should seriously consider reseating the heatsink.

BTW all these temps were taking with CoreTemp as it's generally accepted that this produces the most accurate temperature.

I will just steal max setup except cpu

E6600
P5B-Deluxe
Scythe Ninja 120mm fan
P180b w/ 5 120mm case fans

914 bios

stock 36/44C mb 32C

3.1g 40/49C mb 34C

using coretemp

That bit about coretemp is disuputable....I have the same cooler as you and my idle is 33, I load out at 48 tops.

I noticed taking off the cover of the NB Heatsink (I did it while it was still in my case!) really stabilized the temp of the NB...it's 1 degree higher than my cpu on idle and even under load now it stays right where it is....take that cover off helps immensley if you have some air flow.

I checked out your thread and my idle temps were actually slightly under that with the stock voltage on load. I have a different fan attached to that heatsink though. My current temps (39c idle ~49c load) are because I have my e6400 running at 3.25ghz. My NB is sitting pretty at 32c

E6400
P5W DH Deluxe BIOS 0801
Corsair 2GB RAM PC6400C4 (800)
Zalman CNPS 9500AT
Enermax Chakra case w/250mm and 2/120mm Enlobal fans

I use CoreTemp to monitor the temps and at stock settings my idle temps are 35C and I used AS5 on the hsf. At stock running under load its 47C. Thought I'd post mine as a comparison.
