I'm putting my tax return and good credit to use and taking Newegg up on their 12 months interest free financing. I find myself pondering two different i7 builds. One with an SSD and 4890 and the other with a 5870.

I'm looking for thoughts and perspectives I haven't had. I'm really looking forward to some of the new games coming out (SC II & D3) so it'll need to make things pretty while I'm melting face.

thanks!

SSD and don't buy any video card, especially for games that likely won't be out for another 3-4 years.

I agree with lt_shiro: Can we please see both builds? There might be a way to fit in a SSD and HD 5870 depending on the parts you chose. Also, please answer the stickied "ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FIRST" so that we can help you better.

This is the build I'm leaning towards. Graphics card and (additional) hard drive left out.

Uses and such come from this thread. I started a new thread because I wanted to ask a very specific question.

Hm... coulda dropped the PSU and HSF lower and cramped in one of the Kingston 30GB SSDs that were on sale today.

Yea you don't need a SSD. 5870 would be better value to your overall gaming performance. SSD only help loading times.

go i5 and with the money saved get a SSD.
and u still get ur 5870.

ssd as the os/applications drive is just ridiculously fast. ssd is definitely the next step in removing bottlenecks in a computer.

I'd recommend switching down to i5 and getting a 60gb SSD, while keeping the 5870.

i thought main purpose was web browsing? :p true, ssd won't help gaming much, but everything else will seem a lot faster with an SSD. ;)
