Hey guys, I don't want to spend 400 on a 5870, but I'd like a little more umph.

4870 seems to be disappearing, I see a lot of OOS on newegg and amazon, and I'm not sure how much time I have left to throw another in the computer. When I grab a 5870 in the future, it'll probably be around fall when the price falls around 250 or 300.

Is it worth it to go crossfire for now? I've never done it before, and I'd get a 5870 probably before DX11 titles go mainstream, I'm expecting that to happen in around a year or so.

I usually play Source games like L4D, but ARMA 2 seems to chug a little bit, and I'd like to play Crysis and STALKER with better framerates.

Don't need a big discussion, just a quick answer, not sure what to do with the 5870s.

What PSU do you have?
What size monitor do you have?

If your PSU is capable of powering two HD 4870 1GB and if you have at least a resolution of 1920x1200, go for it.

I have a 24in 1900x1200 monitor with a 750w Silverstone with something like 70 amps on the +12v rail.

Thanks Danny

It definitely doesn't have 70A on the +12V considering thats 840W of power. Which Silverstone do you have? IIRC, there was a few crappy Silverstone 750W PSU models.

4870 crossfire is about as fast as one 5870, thats what I'm running now. A single card alternative is the 4870x2.
