I currently have the 4850x2 2gig video card and im able to sell it for $280can and purchase the GTX260 maxcore 55 OC for $180can

Will i see much of a performance hit or should i just keep it?

maxcore 55 OC?

What is that?

Is that:
GTX260 c192 65nm
GTX260 c216 65nm
GTX260 c216 55nm

any of those three?

You will actually see a performance increase with GTX 260 c216 vs HD 4850x2. In [H] review both the 2Gb and the 1Gb HD 4850x2 versions got trashed by GTX 275 / HD 4890 and your card is not far off in performance after little OC. Actually if you can get ~ 660 core your card would be very close to HD 4890 / GTX 275 performance if not faster and would completely trash HD 4850x2.

Remember, 260 would win in real world gaming and not in fake non representative benchmarks.

DeadSkull is correct. I had a 4850X2. I got rid of it and replaced it with a GTX275 @ 710/1242. The 4850X2 had higher max frames than the GTX275. The difference was minimal but still higher.

The GTX275 killed the 4850X2 in minimum frame rates. The 4850X2 would sometimes drop to single digits when gaming & the GTX275 would never get anywhere near those levels. Game play on the GTX275 is much smoother in general.

Many will say it's a driver issue, but I disagree. I had my 4850X2, & used every driver from 8.12 to 9.8, before ditching the card.
