I ordered a 2GB HD 4850 X2 from newegg but when I checked with catalyst and dxdiag,
shows only 1GB... (the box says 2GB.)

Tell me that I'm reading it right and they gave me the wrong card -.-'

Hopefully this is the correct place to post (if not please move it :])

Everything is correct. The 2gb comes from 1gb x 2 chips. VRAM isnt shared so each core registers as only having 1gb.

Each GPU has its own memory dedicated to it, which is 1GB. However for Crossfire (and SLI) to work, the contents of the memory on each card has to be identical. That's why only 1GB of actual framebuffer is available, even though there is 2GB worth of RAM on the boards.

Strictly speaking the contents on the memory banks aren't completely identical( each GPU is working with a different picture ), which is why they can't both share the same memory.

fyi, I have the same display w/ my 2gb 4850x2...just to verify...you actually got me all paranoid haha

but your info is correct
