4850 problems I need some help guys

Well got my hd4850 installed today with the gfx chilla on it.
I get home from work and when I start up I get no signal to my monitor.It is connected dvi to vga adapter to the vga connector on my monitor.

I get no signal to my monitor,but if I plug it into my 32inch 720 lcd tv I get signal.Once windows starts up I can unplug from the tv and plu into the monitor and have video.
What the hell can be causing this?

Another thing here also.
When I right click on the desktop to try to get into the catalyst control center my screen goes black and I get nothing.
I want to be able to view my temps on the 4850 before and while I start gaming to make sure the card is nice and cool.Riva tuner isn't coming up with the option like it use to for me to check out the settings and to overclock my video card if need be.I just want to monitor my temps on the video card and be able to turn the pc off and turn it back on and have video on my monitor.

If you guys can please help I willl greatly appreciate it.Thanks in advance
 
since you're using a oem machine, you might need to update the bios for the mobo. i needed to do the same to my p45 board to get it to cooperate with the hd 48xx series cards
 
Well since the 4850 I have has the gfx chilla on it will the card bog down when it isn't under a load or will it run full steam all the time?

It is just a pain in the ass that when I turn it off and want to turn it back on that I have to plug it into the tv then into the monitor
 
I got riva tuner working I had to install a newer version of it.I am gonna try some lost planet benchmark and see how it does with the temp
 
the drivers will spin up and down the fan connected to the card regardless of what kind of cooler is attached. with the 8.10 drivers you can lock the fans to spin at one speed all the time. you could also follow the fan mod tutorial published by this site a few weeks ago.
 
well in the little time I just played cod4 and the temp never went over 45c.
 
Another question,I know I have read it here but I cannot find it.
I seen something about being cpu limited or gpu limited.It said something about lowering the resolution and settings to see what you are limited by.If anyone knows what I am talking about please let me know
 
A good way to find out if your GPU or CPU limited:
First drop the resolution to as low as it will go, and turn all settings on low. You may even be able to tweak the game to stop rendering some objects, and really drop the graphics quality. If your frame rates don't improve whatsoever, then your CPU/platfrom is limiting your performance. So you would then know, that upgrading your GPU will not bring that game to playable levels.
However, if you find that by lowering your settings to such a disgusting degree, actually brings the game to a playable level. Then an upgrade of the GPU will let you turn the settings up, and your CPU should remain up to the task.

Ok where he is my results from the lost planet demo.
I ran each test 3 times to get a postive avg so tell me what you think

@1280x720 with the settings on default,mostly medium some high I got a avg of this

Snow-@default 77.5fps avg
Snow- @low nasty ugle 95fps avg

Cave- @default 35.7
Cave- @low nasty ugly 45fps

So by the looks of this my cpu is doing fine and it is the video card correct.
I have a hd4850 installed with the gfx chilla cooler with the 2 fans mounted on the card and my temps stay around 40c idle and 55cmax under load
 
It is a big difference with this hd4850 compared to the 8800gt I had WOW
I just wonder if I can play far cry 2 and bioshock with a good framerate.
 
excellent frame rate in bioshock with a 2.5ghz quad at 19x10. you'll likely be able to force at least 4x aa at your res.
 
That is good to hear about bioshock but I hope it does good on my rig.There is a big difference in out machines man.
I am playing cod4 maxxed everything and am staying above 60fps all the time in multiplayer online with a good bit of people in the room.
My 8800gt I use to dip down in the 30's sometimes but this 4850 seems to be whoopin A$$

My local ebgames doesn;t have bioshock in stock so I gotta wait for it.The game is only $20 now so I feel it is worth it to purchase.I am trying to get myself some games so I have somethign to do this winter.I dont wanna be outside it's cold as all hell.

Has anyone done any benchmarks with the 4850 in far cry 2 at 1680x1050 and lower?
 
bioshock doesn't use more than 2 cores, so your 2.6ghz amd x2 isn't too far away from my 2.5ghz quad.
