4850 is an overclocking beast!

So I'm building a computer for my friend, and the goal was good budget parts and overclock them like no tomarrow. Encased in an Antec 900, I was floored to see that the ocing tool in Catalyst Control Center was maxed out when we were finished! Holy shit! The only thing I had to do was increase the fan speed to around 43 percent, which introduced little difference in sound but decreased the load temp from the high 80's to the much more comfortable realm of high 60's. The resulting improvement allowed Crysis to be playable with everything at Very High with 4x aa at 1680x1050 (on win xp 32bit), around 23-26 fps which is quite acceptable for this game, and it looks freaking gorgeous. Reminds me of the 9700-9800 pro days.

So yeah, if any of you have a simlar experience, chime in! Makes me want to upgrade, but with my 19'' ws monitor and a good oc on my trusty 8800 gts 640 I dont think I need it less I get a bigger monitor, as all my games play smooth as butter. But if I go for the 22'' one of these days, the 4850 may be following...
 
what cpu and ram does your friend have and many ppl overclock much further than what overdrive can give you by using other tools and mods. some guy in the forsale forum said he has two 4850's doing 725 and 2200
 
700/2200 is good enough. Your not going to notice any gain from 25mhz. I had the 9800 pro, that was a great card. That thing lasted me forever. Hoping the 4850 will do the same.
 
Im on 700/1075, 1100 for mem gets me artifacts. Oh and i've set the core voltage as '1200' in the fan profile to give the card stability. Running on 100% stock cooler and 0 issues so far :)

100% on stock cooling is hair dryer noise status :p
 
If you think 700 is good, you should really try 800+. It's nice.
