Is anyone having issues with getting their fan speed hack for the 4800 series working? When I create a profile in the catalyst it is not showing up in the following path C:\Documents and Settings\(My profile)\Application Data\ATI\ACE . I am using the 8.6 hotfix drivers and XP. I have reinstalled the drivers a couple times and even tried the 8.7b drivers and the same thing no profile.xml file. Any suggestions?

Try C:\Doc.and Settings\(user)\local settings\application data\ATI\ACE etc. etc. etc.

The profile you created should be in there...somewhere.

You might need to go to Control Panel/Folder Options/Show hidden files and folders
for it to show up.

I had the same problem, but don't forget it's inside the LOCAL SETTINGS folder, then Application Data\ATI\ACE etc.

Enable ATi Overdrive, make a profile in catalyst name it anything u want, besure to include 3D, and overdrive in the composition TAB,

go into the C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\USER directory, make a short cut of the final User directory for easier access, u should see the profile's name u just made and the fan settings set it to manual and FanSpeedPercentTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="80" />

just do a search for your profile name with "search hidden files and folders" checked under "more advanced options".

I created my profile and in Vista ultimate x64 it got placed here

C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\

That's weird. I run Vista Ultimate x64 as well w/ Catalyst 8.7 Beta and mine was put here:

C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles\

When I was using Catalyst 8.6 (CD drivers) it was here:

C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\

bear in mind that vista 32/64 bit versions are slightly different, the x64 version has a "program files x86" and also a "program files", where as the 32 bit only has a "program files".

In fact vistas backwards compatability is a crazy nightmare filled with hidden linked folders (low level) and shortcuts you can't use or open all so older XP apps work correctly.

I've set three profiles on my 4870. One is the default that the cards usually runs, one is for the fan at 25% for windows usage and one is at 35% for gaming. My room gets kind of hot in the summer down here in the south and setting my fan speed at 25% has lowered my idle temps from the low 70's to 60 - I can barely hear the fan (I'd prefer complete silence but that's a tradeoff I'll have to make). There is nothing wrong with the stock cooler as far as actually getting the card cooled, I was in the high 40's at 35%. The issue for me is only the added noise. It's nice to have a shortcut to your game with a profile icon on your desktop, not a lot of extra icons that way.

SX2233, I will verify that in the catalyst I have 3D checked when creating the profile becuase I know that overdrive is.

I can also view hidden files and unknown file types so thats not the problem. It would be nice to pinpoint the problem becuase there are others with the same issue on other forums.

do a repair catalyst in control panel, restart and see how it goes.
