Damn, I forgot the O/S LoL

A cheap or free Linux distro should work fine for web/email..

Then again, ATI Linux drivers are lol :(

you're in texas right? isn't there a fry's in texas? they usually have some good mb/cpu combos. check their add and see what you can find.

I'd take my chances with a cheap Dell. At that price it wouldn't make much sense to buy all the parts separately. The build Hardguru mentioned is good. Linux would be fine just for surfing. With Ubuntu you only really need 2GB of RAM because it's so light on resources, then again x86 Windows 7 is pretty light on resources as well. Also, the Athlon II X2 240 Hardguru mentioned is a great. The more premium X2 250 has been compared to the e8400 and the only difference between the two is the core clock (2.8Ghz for 240, 3.0Ghz for 250).

Yea, if you aren't reusing any parts and you are trying to go as cheap as possible, just get any dual-core desktop with at least 2GB of ram from any retailer. Check out the weekly ads, or just walk into a Best Buy or Staples. Or a CompUSA or Fry's if you are by one there locations.

And the keyboard, and the mouse, and the common sense...

Why does he need 4gb for browsing the web? why does he need a 430w PS? Why does he need a nice-ass Antec Solo case?

Well at the time that list was created, that Antec NSK6580 case was one of the better deals for a quality case/PSU combo @ $90 with free shipping. You can certainly build that rig with a low wattage PSU but there probably wasn't a combo or a good deal on one at that time to justify going with a lower wattage PSU. As for the case, the OP might want a nice looking case rather than those cheapy cases. At $45 shipped for the PSU and $45 shipped for the case, that NSK 6580 was an excellent deal at the time.

Yea, but that is blowing 1/4 of the budget on just the case.. Its almost as much as the CPU/Motherboard. I mean, I agree that ugly cases suck, and Antec is awesome, but given the budget stated.. it just does not make sense.

That was 1/4 of the budget on a case AND PSU. Not that bad.
