So long story short, I lost my camera bag, it was recently found, sold the camera I had just bought, and I have 600 to spend. 200 of those are going towards a vacation. And the rest for my desktop.

Currently my specs are

Mobo = MSI 785GM-E51 AM3 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130247)

Im thinking of spending 110 or so on a 60gb ssd, to install OS/wow and some programs on, and the rest on whatever I need.

I'm guessing my bottleneck is my processor, does anyone have any recommendations for that? then if I have anything left (if its a 250 dollar processor), i can spend 40 on buying the same ram and going 8g.

What are your opinions? I mostly want a faster computer that can run wow at max settings and all that. I probably have a 100 dollar leeway (if anyone thinks its a good idea to bridge another 5770 or something, although not sure if my mobo can do that), the one thing i've never understood about computers is the ram to cpu to motherboard connection ahha.

Since your motherboard uses DDR3, you should be able to upgrade to 8GB or 12GB for not much money. There have been a lot of decent sales on DDR3 lately. You should be able to find a 2x4GB set for under $60. The Phenom II X6 1100T is a nice processor though it may be overkill unless you do lots of video processing. You might be better served by a decent Phenom II X4 like the 3.4GHz 965 which is $120 AC. An SSD would be a nice upgrade too.

If you wanted more space then an ssd, and really fast hard drive space, grab 2 of the samsung 1tb f2 drives (Samsung HD103SJ) and upgrade the board to either an h67, p67, or z series (as they have raid onboard). It's a very fast combo for a hard drive in raid, but does go a bit over budget. (board is ~$40 more, drives are ~$59 (or 49 on sale))
 
Do you want to overclock? You could afford to get an Intel Sandy Bridge based system with this budget for a large performance increase. Alternatively, upgrading to a quad core AMD 955 or 965 Black Edition may provide enough of a boost to help your system perform to your expectations. Check to ensure that your motherboard will support whatever processor you end up with (go to MSI's website and look up the processor compatibility list.) An SSD will help with your boot and load times. Something like a Crucial M4 for boot and your most used games would be okay.

Basically, depending if you go AMD, your budget will look like this:

$120 - AMD 965 Black Edition
$40 - 2x2GB DDR3
$120 - 64GB Crucial M4 SSD or $230 for 128GB Crucial M4
Total: $280 to $390

If you go Intel, and don't care about overclocking:
$270 - Intel Core i5-2400 and Intel BOXDH67CLB3 LGA 1155 Intel H67 Motherboard
$120 - 64GB Crucial M4 SSD
Total: about $400 when you take shipping into account

Then add another $40 for 4GB of RAM if you want. The Core i5-2400, while more expensive, is a faster CPU than the AMD 965.

Also, if you live by a Microcenter they have some great deals this month that would change my above recommendations.
 
Great, thanks for the help. I am trying to decide if the i5/new mobo is worth it compared to adding a AMD phenom II x6 1100T processor. I could do this if I weren't going intel...

The Phenom II 1100T is a bit of a waste of money. Try to go with the cheapest PHenom II X6 you can find or Phenom II X4 955 CPU to lessen the wasting of money.

Yes, above the $170 price range, Intel CPUs are the better choices.

if you have a microcenter nearby, the phenom x4 955 is only like $112 i believe but if you go with the x6 1055t its $10 cheaper on newegg to $145. Personally id just go with the 955

edit: So the 955 is pretty much just starts off at a lower voltage? I can get that one and overclock it to surpass the 965?

double edit: Supposedly you can't mix ram? Anyone thinks its worth it for me to get x2 of the ram above?
 
if im not mistaken the 955 can run as fast as a 975 through a bios multiplier change from 16x to 8x and its $17 than the 965.

edit: i'd honestly just get a 2x4gb ram kit and try selling your old ram to recoup some of the cost, that way you dont have to worry about mixing ram. I doubt you'll need all 12gb of ram anyways.

Great, then the 955 is the one I'm getting, now I'm just unsure about ram/ssd haha. I cant go wrong with choosing the ram above I'm guessing, I just cant mix and match with my current ram, so either i pick up x2 of that one or do nothing, online says 4g of ram should be enough for most games, maybe I can pick up simply faster ram (still 4g though).

Ended up deciding that I didn't need to upgrade ram at the moment, going to be picking up phenom 955, and a new ssd, not sure which one yet.

Omgah haha, this 955 heatsink is SO loud, I tried turning it down to 75%, and now its running at 46C, does that seem alright?

if it's the same as the stock one that came with 1055t, it's a loud fan. In the end it took a new case and a bunch of case fans to keep the 1055t cool enough to keep the cpu fan rpm under 3000.

Ya might try to undervolt the cpu to see if you can reduce the heat on it, that's assuming it's seated correctly.
 
I realized if i go into fanspeed I believe, I can keep the cpu at 45-44c and at 70%. When i posted that it was hot in my room, I guess no window open for me.
