3DMark05 Countdown

Note, that's an 'O' at the beginning, not a '0'. Release date is supposedly sometime next week, but who knows.

After looking at the latest screenshots of 3DMark05, I can say I'm pretty excited to see what it's going to look like.

Meh...I'm gonna avoid the rush (4-5kbs dowload on dsl :rolleyes: ) and just grab it in couple weeks.

Seems like there's 18000 or so seconds to go so at 3600 seconds in an hour fallguy seems dead on .

5 hours..... notice 6600GT's, via's new PCI express mobo's 890's, and 3dMark 2005 all coming out with in a day or so of each other.

I bet there's a test which gives you points for PCI express over AGP cards. LIke the texture download test. So people with AGP cards feel inferior :(

I guess my lowly 6800GT and 3.6Ghz P4 isn't going to cut it any more. Time to buy an FX-53 and vapochill.

I had a little browse over at the futuremark forums and it seems it may not be a "normal" linear countdown timer ...also the first 0 is an O

I wonder if they are gonna move the highest end cards back down to a max of around 5 thousand arbitrarily calculated 3dmarks. Seems like futuremark likes the 20,000 range as a high, usually giving videocard and cpu makers a year and a bit to get to it.

there should be a PCI-E test. I'd think that with the 6600, everyone is now in the PCI-E camp, it just a plain great technology to have.

Why is everyone this excited over it? Just curios.

I want to see the rolling demo part of it, but that’s all its useful for for me.

I rely on the games I play to determine how good my system is at playing those games.

6pm Eastern Time...........about 4 hrs 20 mins to go.

I'm sure it'll be a real purdy slideshow, just like 3DMark03 was before the X800+6800 stuff arrived. :(

You should know why!

#1 - Its purdy to look at.... like a hot chick... ok not that pretty.
#2 - Its the next best thing to measuring our members or having a pissing contest.
#3 - It showcases (new technology*) what your new videocards can do.

* usually 3DMark is one of the first ones to "market" with something that uses the technology like back when DX8.0 first came out, then DX9.0, now DX9.0c and SM3.0

Yes, and #1 and #3 I agree with.

But #2 I don't understand anymore.

3DMark is good as a 3D technological showcase, but as for measuring your video card performance I think we've seen how that can be misleading and does not represent how games actually perform on video cards.

Without wanting to start any 'versus' things, is 3DMark05 going to finally show the merits of SM3? Does anyone foresee the 6800 series benefitting over the ATI cards in terms of final score?

I just assumed it would have SM3.0 since it is the future of videocards to be more programmable with each generation. And SM3.0 is the next step. ATI might be penalized for foregoing it in this generation. But we wont know for another 3 hours and 50 minutes.

Brent, thats why I said its for a pissing contect or penis measurement contest. B/c it (at least 3dMark2003) isnt a good benchmark for gaming performance.

3dMark2001 was a great benchmark and is just now finally starting to show its age, as the results are leveling out on the highend. Hopefully, 3dMark2005 is more than a "who paid Futuremark more money" / "complete VIDEOCARD only benchmark where if you dont have the very latest cutting edge card... you cant even run it" benchmark.

I just read the messages from an admin regarding the countdown timer. The first digit isn't actually a 0 according to him, looks like an o (letter). He's also saying that everyone's estimates on when the counter will reach zero are wrong. Therefore the timer is a bunch of s*** and they're just trying to create hype for another useless benchmark as usual. I just love how we always get lied to about everything when it comes to computers, the most notable would be on release dates. HL2 anyone??

I thought saw a pull down menu in one of the SS's with the different paths, 2, 2b and 3. Maybe in the pro version(?)

am I the only person who looked at those and thought "Wow - that's a lot of stuff going on... but why does it look 'off' to me?" I look at those shots and they impress me because there's obviously a lot going on, but the shots just don't look good to me (rather they aren't beautiful, impressive but not beautiful). Almost like an equation can be impressive or powerful, but not truly beatutiful (like - say E=mcc).

can anyone explain what I'm seeing as weird?

Oh great another benchmark to make my score low. I that I was the sh*t when I broke the 10k,11k and 12k barrier on 03Mark. Guess I will be back to the low thousands...

3.16 hours, According my my estimate. Just from figuring out that it takes the 4th digit from the right 10secs to complete.

3dMark is still an excellent measure of performance. When my scores go up, my performance in games goes up, too. My just-purchased X800 XT PE really is 7000 points or over 100% better than my old 5900XT, and I can see all of this *in games.*

I am at a loss as to why people continually downplay the viability of 3DMark as an accurate barometer of gaming performance.

why does it look 'off' to me

The shadows look off to me... I'm not sure if NVidia or ATi uses AA on their shadows, but honestly my preference is that I don't like well defined "sharp" shadows.

I still prefer blob shadows like what you normally see when paying extra for a high-quality reading or photographers quality soft-lightbulb. Any photographer will tell you to never try and take a back-lit shot as the excessive shadows will ruin the picture. Sure its "realistic", but it certainly is not a visual situation you would want even in a real scenario, so why try to emulate it in 3D?

damn just check my egyptian math forumulas, in egyptian sanscrit the O is sometimes used for 10.... so actually when the counter hits O0000000 it will change to 09999999. SHIT!!

see O00,000,000 = 099,999,999 + 000,000,001

so there's actually 30 hours left. doh....

I'm starting to get wood thinking about it.... that will help for my "member" measurement.
.

.
.
oh wait...
.
I forgot.......

j/k about the egyptian sanscrit thing. lol

And 1 min after the download is available the !!!!!Nvidia! and !!!!ati!!! posts will start :rolleyes: :p

naw maybe 5 minutes, cause they gotta first benchmark that bean, then we're gonna hear *mines better than yours, na na na na na naaaaa* and so on

Its not neccesarily for measuring performance to indicate which graphics card is best, but more of a way to see how various settings affect different aspects of a typical game as well as a way to ensure that your hardware is working properly.

The rankings are a competition for some people, and just numbers for others. The people who strive for the top in a benchmark are the same people who got the special email when playing super turbo turkey puncher. =)

Well, guess my prediction was wrong, now it is O0xxxxxxx....

No, its got to hit O00,000,000

before it turns to 099,999,999

its Log x - y^z

Onsets, Equations, etc.

Great for telling what settings effect your speed and such, like fastwrites and different clocks and mem speeds. When my GT gets to certain speeds it actually gets lower scores in 04.

You guys are getting oft.

var pageLoadTimeLeft = 6059703;
var pageLoadTime = new Date().getTime();

var elapsedTime = new Date().getTime() - pageLoadTime;
var timeLeft = (pageLoadTimeLeft - elapsedTime);

It should be in a few hours.

Note: Your number 6059703 will be lower then mine, depending on when you start.

Futuremark screwing with you:

if( oL == "ei" ) {
while( parsedTime.length < 8 ) {
parsedTime = "0" + parsedTime;
}
parsedTime = "O" + parsedTime;
}

Note that "O" is not part if the number.

Dammit you beat me to the part about the O :(

EDIT: also, when the timer is done, it will go to http://service.futuremark.com/counter/counter.jsp?869

but that just seems to be the normal timer page atm. Im sure they will change the page code a min or two before the timer finishes so it will respond the the 869 that is passed to it

I may be wrong but looks like 88 hours from 5:00 pm est

I'm gettin my fire xtingushers ready.
What fun be a fla :D me fest
